Full Salary Range: $46,315 - $82,880 Annually Hiring Range: $46,315 - $60,941 Annually depending on qualifications, with an excellent benefits package. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am-5:00 pm; with occasional weekends and evenings based on program demands.

Primary Duties/Brief Description of Work:
We are seeking a creative and innovative individual to serve as Aquatics and Programming Specialist. This person will provide essential leadership and support to the outdoor swimming pools, and related programs within the department's Community Recreation Services Division. The individual hired into this position will be responsible for the overall year-round management, operations, and Programming of the outdoor swimming pools. Since this position is two-fold the selected individual must be highly motivated, have exceptional time and project management skills, and be able to provide the highest level of customer service.
Essential Functions of the Position include but are not limited to:
- Manages and supervises all aspects of the outdoor pools including staff and programs, providing technical expertise, instructor training, staff meetings, in-service sessions and ensures that all staff are trained and certified for the upcoming season. Supervises and manages activities in program registration, facility use and rentals, revenue collection and reconciliations, and manages approved budget.
- Works closely with the pool contractor for maintenance and chemical needs. Responsible for ordering and inventory maintenance of supplies and equipment. Responsible for managing the aquatic contractor contract (extensions, renewals, etc.).
- Must be able to perform basic pool maintenance (i.e. balance chemicals, backwashing, etc.). Will be responsible for addressing any safety issues or concerns.
- Works to provide additional general programming opportunities during the aquatics off-season. Must possess the ability to assess, develop, coordinate, plan and implement recreational programs.
- Involved in the creation and implementation of policies and procedures for effective facility operations. Conducts program and facility evaluations and addresses safety and risk management issues including complaint resolution.
- Participates in departmental work teams, represents the department at community events and collaborates with other sections, departments and organizations in order to meet the departmental and community needs.
- Acts as a resource to management and employees regarding assigned program areas. Keeps current in new developments in the field through professional memberships, attending conferences, and networking with professionals.
The employee will be required to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as dictated by program and facility needs and maintain a reliable means of communication (i.e., home or cellular phone) for call-back purposes, and/or emergency situations. The individual in this position may be required to work during periods of inclement weather to ensure that service delivery continues uninterrupted. Work requires the ability to perform the physical duties of this job, which includes lifting up to 50lbs. The individual in the position may be assigned to assist with other program areas as program demands dictate. The employee must have reliable means of contact (phone/cell) and transportation. Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree with 1-3 years of experience managing the operations and Programming of an aquatic facility, or similar facility
- "OR" an Associate's Degree with 5-7 years of experience managing the operations and Programming of an aquatic facility, or similar facility
- 1+ years of experience in recreation and/or aquatics programming including managing employees and volunteers
- Experience providing staff training and in-service programming
- Certified Pool/Spa Operator (CPO) certification or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) certification ("OR" the ability to obtain within 6 months)
- Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor ("OR" the ability to obtain before April 2024)
- Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor Trainer Certification ("OR" the ability to obtain before April 2024)
- Valid Driver's License "OR" reliable means of transportation
An Ideal Candidate Would Also Possess (Preferred Qualifications):
- Bachelor's Degree or higher in Parks and Recreation Management, Aquatics or Sports Management, Business Management, Exercise Sports Science, or a closely related field
- Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP)
- Experience with recreation management software
- Experience with DigiQuatics aquatics management software
- Water Safety Instructor Certification
