Job Description
Southwest Virginia Community College (SWCC) offers career-training programs in numerous technical, industrial and medical fields at a reasonable cost, going so far as to even waive tuition for certain eligible students. Located in Richlands, Virginia, SWCC offers associate's degrees in such fields as business, education, general studies, liberal Arts and science. These degrees are primarily intended for students who wish to transfer to a four-year university. SWCC also has associate degrees that feature programs intended to lead directly to a career in fields such as Nursing, Radiography and Administration of Justice.
The Appalachian Arts & Event Center Coordinator provides leadership in planning and managing a broad spectrum of events and functions.
This position will be responsible for assisting the Executive Director of the Educational Foundation with oversight of the general operations, including employees, of the Appalachian Arts & Events Center.
The Coordinator ensures that all events enhance the college mission, cultivate culture, reinforce the college brand, and reflect campus-wide priorities.
This position is responsible for executing a business plan for maximizing the use of facilities and services to generate revenue for the Appalachian Arts Center.
This position requires a 12-month probationary period for both new hires and transfers.
Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

  • Demonstrated experience and excellence in customer service
  • Management experience including employee supervision and budget oversight
  • Work experience in a related field
  • Work experience in retail or related field
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Detail-oriented
  • Strong critical and problem solving
  • Ability to consistently meet project deadlines

Additional Considerations
  • Experience working in a community college setting
  • Experience working with transactional POS systems such as Square, Stripe, etc.
  • Knowledge of Appalachian Culture and Appalachian artistry
