Title: .NET/C# Full Stack Software Developer

Location: Atlanta, GA or Birmingham, AL

Job Summary:

Southern Company's Development Strategies and Standards group is seeking a Software Developer to join its team of experienced professionals. This role involves collaborating with fellow developers to analyze, estimate, design, code, test, and support a variety of applications and enterprise integrations in alignment with business requirements.

As a Software Developer, you will be instrumental in guiding projects through their full application lifecycle, including the development of new solutions, the improvement of existing offerings, and the harmonious integration of these solutions with Southern Company's existing systems. You'll also be responsible for managing development costs through precise project estimation.

A strong technical background in software development is required for this position. Ensuring compliance with Southern Company's Application Development standards and striving for high-quality outcomes are key responsibilities. The ideal candidate will have strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to work autonomously.

Your participation in application sessions will influence the development standards at Southern Company, where we continually explore new technologies. A drive to learn and the skill to implement new technologies on a corporate scale are essential qualities for this role.

Recent technological advancements we're embracing include Azure Cognitive Services, Kafka, and OpenShift. Part of this strategic role includes identifying reuse opportunities to maximize enterprise services and components.

We strive for a streamlined SDLC that enables our developers to deliver value more quickly and effectively. Your contributions as a Software Developer will support this goal, enhancing the agility and efficiency of software development processes across Southern Company.

Education / Experience:

Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college with a concentration in computer science or a related field

Working knowledge and understanding of development technologies, methodologies, and associated tools

Experience with software development

Experience with application architecture

Job Responsibilities:

Develop and/or implement timely, cost effective, and high-quality business solutions to meet customer needs, using approved methodologies and standards

Provide root cause analysis, efficient production support and maintenance / enhancements for existing applications

Build and maintain relationships with peers, staff, management, other IT groups, and vendors

Apply strong oral and written communication skills; apply strong customer service and negotiating skills; exhibit initiative; follow through with customer commitments; and apply sound performance techniques

Support project planning by providing accurate estimates and status reports and by meeting deliverables

Manage personal career development by maintaining technical expertise and developing Southern Style Leadership characteristics

Participate in special projects/assignments. This will include new technology evaluations, POC's, standards discussions, strategy development, and architecture design sessions.

Actively look for ways to streamline the SDLC for our developers

Job Requirements:

Knowledge and understanding of software development technologies, methodology and associated tools

Knowledge of C# and the .NET framework

Understanding of service-oriented architectures

N-tier application architecture experience using the .NET platform

Working knowledge of application architectures (Web, Client Server, Command Line, Databases, etc.)

Candidate must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Demonstrated technical writing skills.

Ability to demonstrate application design principles

Competencies

Ability to function independently and as a team member

Demonstrate understanding and application of Southern Style attributes

Advanced knowledge of the following software development technologies:

Microsoft C# .NET

JavaScript client-side frameworks

HTTP/REST web services

SQL

Must be a self-starter and able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Enterprise application design principles a plus
