EL Teacher (Spanish Speaking) Direct Supervisor: EL Program Administrator Qualifications:
1. EL endorsement
2. Certification in Special Education (LBS 1) preferred
3. Excellent English written and verbal communication skills.
4. Valid Illinois Drivers License.
5. Experience in and knowledgeable about working with students with special needs.
6. Knowledge of assessment instruments for EL Students.
Overview:
The EL Special Education Teacher provides direct instruction to students with limited English proficiency attending SEDOL classes located throughout Lake County, necessitating travel between sites. The individual will display the ability to self-direct in an independent work environment. She/he will also collaborate and consult with teachers, parents and other professionals. Performance Responsibilities:
* 1. Administer the W-APT and ACCESS tests.
* 2. Use appropriate research-based EL methods for direct instruction of academic skills to students with a variety of disabilities.
* 3. Consult with classroom teachers regarding best practice for instructing students with EL needs.
* 4. Use technology to become knowledgeable in Research Based Instruction/Materials for EL and share with EL team members.
* 5. Review and process all pertinent EL referral information.
* 6. Attend IEP meetings, parent conferences, team meetings and perform on-site students observations as needed.
* 7. Attend professional development pertinent to the role and present to colleagues on information learned.
8. Maintain required paperwork, including data for the State of Illinois grant.
* 9. Maintain regular daily attendance.
* 10. Perform other duties as assigned for the betterment of the EL program.
