About the Position
The Haverford College Libraries seeks a two-year Post-Baccalaureate Fellow to digitize materials which support the strategic needs of the Quaker & Special Collections department. They will also participate in many aspects of the work of the department, including providing reference service and creating social media posts. The fellow will have the opportunity to work with Quaker & Special Collections curators, the Digital Scholarship team, and undergraduate student collaborators. Mentoring and training will be provided.
The post-bac will work on two major digitization projects relating to our internationally-regarded Quaker collections during their time at Haverford. As part of a multi-year project, they will digitize the collection of Rufus M. Jones, a preeminent 20th century Quaker historian, mystic, and philosopher. In support of the College's upcoming 200th anniversary, the post-bac will digitize foundational materials to the College's early history. The post-bac will scan materials, provide description and analysis of individual items or groups of items, and upload materials into the online repository. They will also create a digital exhibit focused on Rufus M. Jones.
The post-bac fellow will focus on projects which build skills to ensure that they are prepared for their next career steps, including the potential of entering graduate school. The post-bac will engage with the diversity, equity, and inclusion goals of the department.
This position reports to the Curator of Quaker Collections. The Fellow will join a dynamic and collaborative department of 4.5 FTE staff in Quaker & Special Collections. This is a two-year fellowship.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Engage with Quaker collections in both physical and digital environments
  • Scan materials from the collections, create metadata, and upload materials to the digital asset management system
  • Provide research assistance to patrons in the reading room and via email
  • Engage and supervise student worker colleagues
  • Collaborate with library social media team to promote projects and materials from Quaker & Special Collections
  • Collaborate with members of the digital scholarship team on digital projects related to materials in Quaker & Special Collections
  • Ensure that the College's commitment to diversity and inclusion is a priority particularly in the design and delivery of services provided to the campus

Line of Report: The Anne T. and J. Morris Evans Post-Baccalaureate Fellow reports to Curator of Quaker Collections and would supervise student colleagues.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree

  • Interest in history, libraries, religion, visual studies, or historical narratives
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive community
  • Prior work that shows a commitment to teamwork, service to others, attention to detail, and a strong balance between quality and quantity of work
  • Experience engaging with primary source material through course work or internships and interest in deepening and furthering those skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, judgment, and initiative
  • Ability to work both independently and collegially as a member of a team
  • Effective oral and written English-language communication skills
  • Problem solving skills and enthusiasm for exploring new ground
