GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Enforces the City’s Animal Ordinance and laws of the State of Florida in regard to animal care and
treatment.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Respond to all types of ANIMAL CONTROL complaints and calls for service.
2. Investigates animal bites, scratches and encounters and completes related reports.
3. Catches, traps, and controls wild and domestic animals, including vicious and combative animals
(large and small), and transports them to appropriate facility.
4. Enforces State, County, and City laws and codes pertaining to ANIMAL CONTROL.
5. Educates citizens regarding ANIMAL CONTROL regulations.
6. Checks and enforces licensing of animals in the community.
7. Picks up healthy, dead, and injured animals.
8. Operates vehicles and ANIMAL CONTROL trapping / catching devices.
9. Communicates by radio, phone, and in writing including detailed incident reports, citations,
memorandums, activity logs, and letters.
10. Testifies in court and administrative proceedings.
11. Must be available to work nights, weekends and holidays and maintain an on-call schedule.
12. Must have a positive attitude and be able to communicate with emotional people in challenging

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, REGISTRATIONS:
- Possession of a valid Florida Driver’s License and clean driving record.
- Obtain Certified Animal Control certification within six (6) months of hire.
- Obtain Euthanasia of Animals certification within six (6) months of hire.
- Have proof of or obtain rabies pre-exposure vaccination, tetanus vaccination and other
vaccinations as required.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS:
- Heavy (45 - 70 pounds and over) lifting and carrying
- Reaching
- Climbing
- Pulling
- Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction)
- Acceptable hearing (with or without hearing aid)
- Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
- Walking, standing, crawling, kneeling, bending, stooping
- Good sense of smell
- Running and jumping (i.e. to avoid injury and protect others from vicious animals)
- Must be competent using basic office equipment include a laptop, printer, cell phone and
- Must be able to use small hand tools (i.e. bolt cutters, knives, saws, etc.)
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
- Works inside and out doors in various weather conditions with: noise and dust, uneven
- Works with and controls live and sometimes vicious and infected animals
- Works with / disposes of dead animals
- Works in flea infested area
- Stress related and highly emotional situations (i.e. abused / neglected animals).
