Davis Farmland in Sterling, Mass. is home to the largest sanctuary of endangered farm animals in North America is adding an assistant farm care team supervisor to our hardworking and awesome animal care team.
This position requires a dedicated and responsible individual capable of supporting the daily care of the animals on our farm as well as high levels of interactive animal encounters with our guests and animal enrichment activities. This person will be required to work both behind the scenes fulfilling daily operational responsibilities and as an integral part of the Davis Farmland Farmpark team educating and promoting five-star animal encounters and demonstrations with our guests.
The successful candidate will be expected to work with a wide variety of animals, including both large and small breeds, equine, reptiles, and birds. The ideal candidate will have a solid working knowledge of animal care and husbandry best practices.
Job Responsibilities:
- All aspects of animal care including but not limited to cleaning, feeding, medicating, enrichment, training, and handling/restraint when necessary, etc.
- Responsible for assisting with training seasonal farmpark farmers with animal care, feeding, and animal encounters
- Enhance guest experiences by initiating conversations, providing assistance, answering questions, and educating about the animals and Davis Farmland’s mission
- Maintain meticulous animal care records tracking births, life span, health, nutrition, enrichment, etc.
- Assisting the animal care manager and veterinarians with medical treatments, administering medication, transfers, and crating.
- Report facility, feed, and supply needs to the Animal Care Manager and Operations Manager.
- Must be able to maintain discretion with confidential information.
- Work as a part of a team, assisting the Animal Care Manager and other farmers with jobs.
SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES HAVE:
- High school diploma or equivalent; college degree in biology, animal science, agriculture or related field preferred.
- Personal attitude and characteristics that contribute to a positive work environment by being a team leader through example such as lending a hand even if it’s not your job, initiative to see what needs to be done, and doing it without being asked.
- Basic knowledge of Word and Excel or similar software.
- Possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
- Ability to effectively communicate with team members and guests.
- Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
- Must be able to work on your feet for extended periods of time and can bend, stoop, extend oneself etc., that is required to perform assigned tasks.
- Able to consistently lift and carry a minimum of 50lbs.
- Ability to learn and perform all animal care tasks.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
