Responsible for maintaining a safe and sanitary facility for animals and people and providing humane handling and care for all shelter animals. Assures all animals’ nutrition, housing and basic medical needs are met on a daily basis. Assists the public when admitting and adopting animals and promotes responsible pet ownership.
Other Requirements:
- All employees must be able to provide their own transportation to and from work.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Availability to work a flexible work schedule including weekends, evenings and holidays.
- Must be able to lift heavy weight in excess of 50 lbs.
- Animal handling experience such as Vet Tech beneficial but not required.
- Must be able to work with cleaning chemicals.
- Daily environment is a very fast paced kennel setting with a multitude of noise and odors.
- Multi-tasking and quick thinking skills are utilized daily.
Qualifications and Skills Good organizational skills; attention to detail; self-motivated; knowledge in animal health and well-being including nutrition needs, knowledge of common animal diseases, skills with animal first aid and CPR, ability to temperament test animals; ability to identify animal species, breeds, ages and sexes; ability to identify signs of animal illness and injuries; good communication skills – verbal and written; team player; ability to work with data base and maintain records; ability to work with computer; willingness to continue learning and research; ability to work well with broad spectrum of the community; good sense of humor.
