Job Title: Animal Care Associate
Reports To: Shelter Manager
General Description: Responsible for the day to day needs of all animals in the care of Cascades Humane Society. Including proper housing, feeding, cleaning, safe and humane handling of animals in CHS care. Medical care as directed by the staff veterinarian.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Knows, understands and follows the Humane Society’s mission, policies and procedures
2. Ensures that all laws, regulations and safety standards are upheld and followed
3. Participates in daily routine of feeding, watering, exercising, cleaning, sanitation, enrichment, grooming and health of the animals in CHS care
4. Create enrichment opportunities for the dogs and cats
5. Assess the mental and physical health of the animals
6. Potentially medicate animals as needed
7. Animals cared for include cats, dogs, and any small animal deemed adoptable
8. Prepare cage/kennel space for incoming animals or pets moved to the adoption floor
9. Follows safe handling procedures for all animals and is aware of the animal’s behavior at all times – keeping safety as top priority
10. Transport animals as needed
11. Valid Michigan Driver’s License with insurable driving record
12. Works cooperatively with all Animal Care staff and volunteers to maintain hygiene in the Animal Care areas.
13. Other tasks as assigned or as indicated by the needs and interests of CHS

Minimum Qualifications:
Valid Michigan Driver’s License with insurable driving record
Computer literacy, proficient verbal and written communication skills
Good observation and interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently and have the ability to follow directions
Ability to make sound judgments under stressful conditions
Good written and verbal communication skills
Available to work flexible hours including weekends
Ability to lift, push, pull and carry 50 pounds with reasonable accommodations
High school degree
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in Animal Care and welfare
Access to dependable transportation
Job Type: Part-time
