Custom Fabricators & Repairs, Inc is seeking a AWS Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) to support our structural steel fabrication and highway component/railings division. This position offers high-visibility, growth opportunities, and exciting builds.

Job Summary:Certified Welding Inspectors employ their extensive knowledge of welding processes, test methods, discontinuities, materials, qualifications, and standards to ensure that weldments and welding-related activities comply with all applicable quality and safety criteria.
The role of the CWI is critical to the safety and structural soundness of the vast number of buildings, vehicles, machinery, and consumer products that require strong, secure welds.

Key Performance Objectives (not an all-inclusive list of duties/expectations)
· Able to read plans and write reports complying with code specs.
· Ensure that all Materials specified on the shop drawings and TxDOT from 1818 are used during fabrication and accurate traceability of the material through fabrication.
· Ensure use of proper WPSs and properly Certified Welding personnel.
· Perform Visual inspection on welded products, structures in progress, and systems to assess their quality, workmanship, and compliance with relevant codes, standards, and specifications.
· Performs inspections both in house and at vendor locations as needed.
· Maintain accurate records of inspection activities, including reports on weld quality, non-conformities, and corrective actions. Ensure all documentation complies with relevant regulations.
· Prepare detailed inspection reports, including photographs, drawings, and other relevant documentation as needed.
· Collaborate with the quality control team to ensure welding procedures are followed and fabricated products meet required quality standards.
· CWI verifies proper weld joint preparation, fit up, and evaluation of the welds to the requirements of AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code – Steel or the AWS D1.2 Structural Welding Code – Aluminum. Use WPS or PQR sample forms located in the current applicable AWS code or approved equal.
· Verification that repairs are made using the required repair procedure and any required NDT is completed on the repair.
· Final acceptance of the product is conducted and stamped by the CWI.
· Assist with the coordination of the annual AISC internal audit.
· Stay updated on industry codes and standards (AISC) and ensure welding processes adhere to these specifications.
· Ensure adherence to safety protocols and practices during welding operations.
· Stay current with certifications and pursue additional training as necessary to maintain Certified Welding Inspector status. Provide guidance and training to welding personnel when needed.
· Investigate and analyze welding-related issues, identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions to address any deficiencies.

Job Requirements and Qualifications:
· Current Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification is required. Must have AWS D1.1 Credentials.
· Minimum of 2 years of experience in welding inspection within the steel fabrication and metal railings industry. TxDOT industry a plus.
· Understanding of specifications relevant to TXDOT requirements
· Experience with AISC certification.
· Familiar with coatings for steel - galvanized, painting, powder coating
· Ability to communicate effectively, both verbal and written, with all internal organization departments, suppliers, subcontractors, and regulatory authorities.
· Strong coordination and organization skills, with strict emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail.
· Good verbal and written communication skills, including knowledge of AWS A3.0 Welding Terms and Definitions. knowledge of welding inspection and related NDE methods (MT, PT, UT, and RT), including ASME Sec. V requirements.
· Proficient working knowledge (welder) and understanding of welding processes, including SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, and FCAW.
· Familiarity with welding codes and standards such as AWS, ASME, and API.
· Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to analyze complex welding-related issues and fixture design challenges.
· Meticulous attention to detail in inspections and documentation.
· Proven ability to analyze problems and implement effective solutions.
· Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
· Must pass a drug test and background check.
· Clean driving record.
Key Competencies:
· Able to work 5 days a week, some overtime required.
· MUST BE ABLE TO READ A TAPE MEASURE.
