Form of workWe have a vacancy for the 2023 - 2024 school year for an Alternative Education Teacher at Appomattox Primary School in the Quest program. The QUEST program is an alternative classroom located at Appomattox Primary School that serves students who are not successful in the traditional classroom setting. QUALIFICATIONS:A Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited four-year college/university.Candidate must possess or be eligible for a Virginia Teaching License with an endorsement in Elementary Education.Preference will be given to applicants who have knowledge/experience with trauma informed classroom practices and additional training in evidence-based practices.
REPORTS TO: Principal POSITION SUMMARY: Provide intervention and instruction to assist at-risk students to develop appropriate behavior, coping skills and social skills. Plan and use appropriate learning skills, activities, equipment and materials that meet the needs of the students in the alternative classroom setting. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides supervision of students in the Alternative Educational setting at the primary school.Works collaboratively with school counselors, teachers, administrators, division student services staff (BCBA/Behavior Intervention Specialist and School Psychologist), parents and outside agencies/related service providers in the overall educational plan for students to include lessons that address the student's behavioral needs.
Provide instruction to individual students and small groups in a variety of academic subjects and other learning activities, including implementing personalized education plans and behavior plans.Plans daily classroom instructional activities aligned to division pacing guides and standards of learning.Administers student assessments to determine academic needs of students enrolled in an alternative setting and uses data to support instructional planning. Prepares lesson plans to correlate with student needs. Maintains student records and files in a confidential mannerKeeps accurate documentation regarding student progress, needs, strengths, etc.
(i.e. grades, observations, anecdotal records, other related data). Demonstrates a high degree of professionalism and ethics, working cooperatively administrators, certificated and non-certificated personnel, parents, and students.
