Who we are looking for

Alpha Services is looking for an experienced risk leader (Business Risk Management Executive - BRME) to join State Street’s Business Risk Management (BRM) organization. The Alpha Services BRM function, led by the Alpha Services BRME, is focused on supporting Alpha Services executive leadership in the identification, assessment and mitigation of risk. Responsibilities including providing oversight of Business Risks, central management of control programs and risk governance, reporting, implementation of corporate programs and business solutions for regulatory, operational and technology risks. The Alpha Services BRME reports into the Alpha Services COO with a dual reporting line into the State Street CAO organization and will be based Boston MA.

What you will be responsible for

As Alpha Services Business Risk Management Executive you will

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to business executives, helping them understand and manage their inherent and residual risk exposure
  • Lead a team who works directly with business leaders to ensure residual risk is managed to an appropriate level via understanding the existing control environment, risk assessments, controls testing and self-identifying areas for control improvements for regulatory, operational, new business onboarding, vendor and technology risk; and remediating any control gaps
  • Ensure Alpha Services complies with policies, standards and programs applicable to the business across risk dimensions of regulatory, operational and technology risk
  • Partner with the second line and third of defense consistent with our Risk Management/control objectives
  • Co-develop the agenda and conduct the Business Risk Committee; the committee being our primary business-level governing body
  • Serve as a close liaison with our senior corporate governing bodies; actively representing Alpha Services and contributing to enterprise wide initiatives and global committees

  • Risk management skills, especially those acquired at G-SIFI organizations and/or large public accounting firms
  • Strong critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making skills to enable looking around corners and proactively address business, regulatory and technology risk exposures
  • Ability to identify and articulate risk and control themes to senior management
  • Experience with risk assessments, control design and effectiveness, first line assurance events (audits), and industry certifications (SOC 1 / 2)
  • Knowledge of key risk indicators, governance, oversight and escalation practices
  • Presentation preparation and delivery for Business Risk committees and cross organizational, executive and board of directors’ committees
  • Strong execution management skills for delivery of programs and initiatives
  • Ability to collaborate and work across multiple stakeholders

Education & Preferred Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree minimum and graduate degree preferred
  • 12-15+ years of related experience including 7-10+ years as part of a global leadership team
  • Industry certifications (e.g.: CRISC, CISA)

Salary Range:

$170,000 - $267,500 Annual

The range quoted above applies to the role in the primary location specified. If the candidate would ultimately work outside of the primary location above, the applicable range could differ.
