The Department of Transportation and
Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Anchorage International Airport is looking an Airport Operations Superintendent to help us Keep Alaska Moving!


What you will be doing:
The Airport Operations Officer works closely with airport sections, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Transportation Security Administration (TSA), tenants, airlines, contractors and the public. The incumbent is expected to analyze and solve a variety of issues and is responsible for coordinating and ensuring the safety of commercial and general aviation for landside, terminal, and airside activities. Operations Officers must be prepared to take any and all actions required by policy and directives to ensure compliance with FAA regulations, the airport certification manual and current aviation security regulations.

The unit mission is to Operate, Develop, and Maintain Anchorage International Airport. This position contributes directly to the safe and efficient operation of the airport by identifying hazards to aviation and effectively mitigating risks to a safe level. Ensuring conformance with FAA regulations is a core task of this job, which not only helps keep the traveling public safe, but also ensures federal grants in the sum of tens of millions of dollars per year continue to flow to the airport. These federal dollars are key to the continued development and maintenance of the airport infrastructure. During emergency or irregular operations, this position is critical to the control of the situation and ensuring that operations return to normal as soon as conditions allow.

Minimum Qualifications

Seven years experience in Airport Operations that was subject to FAA, state or military rules and regulations, and involved commercial or general aviation operations, terminal operations, airport and runway maintenance operations, or aircraft operating area (AOA) issues. A broad range of experiences if applicable and specific to airport and runway operations will be considered qualifying.
Education from an accredited college in aviation management, transportation, business administration, or public administration will substitute for up to four years of the required experience (3 semester hours or 4 quarter hours equals one month of work experience).
Qualifying military experience must reflect ground, airside and landside operations experience to be considered qualifying or equivalent.
Special Note:
If an incumbent is required to use a firearm to assist in controlling wildlife hazards at the airport, he or she must be able to comply with the federal Omnibus Consolidated Appropriations Act of 1997 (PL 104-208). Any person convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence is ineligible for appointment to a position that requires the use or possession of a firearm or ammunition.
Candidates for this class must be eligible for an airport identification badge in accordance with Transportation Security Administration (TSA) regulations (49 CFR 1542), which requires fingerprinting and a background check.
Employees are subject to recall.
Employees are required to possess a current Alaska driver's license.
Employees may be required to maintain first aid certification.

AIRPORT SECURITY BADGE
Candidates for this position must be eligible for an airport identification badge in accordance with Transportation Security Administration (TSA) regulations (49 CFR 1542) (Download PDF reader) which requires fingerprinting and a criminal background check. The successful applicant must pass a fingerprint-based criminal history record check as well as a comprehensive background investigation, along with a Transportation Security Administration Security Threat Assessment.

ARMS & AMMUNITION REQUIREMENT

This position requires the use of firearm or ammunition. If you have been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence you may not hold a position in this job class in accordance with the Federal Omnibus Consolidated Appropriations Act of 1997 (PL-104-208). A "misdemeanor crime of domestic violence" means an offense that:

is a misdemeanor under Federal or State Law; and

has, as an element the use or attempted use of physical force, or the threatened use of a deadly weapon, committed by a current or former spouse, parent, or guardian of the victim, by a person with whom the victim shares a child in common, by a person who is cohabiting with or has cohabited with the victim as a spouse, parent, or guardian of the victim.
