HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL DO
The ideal candidate for this position is a dynamic team leader who will work with the Botanical Gardens and Life and Earth Sciences on our Decatur campus, to maintain and grow the plant life and conservation initiatives.
The essential duties and responsibilities of the Botanical Gardens Managerare the following:
Garden & Greenhouse Area Maintenance
- Oversee a five-acre botanical garden and greenhouse area.
- Determine maintenance needs of the garden and communicate these needs to staff.
- Supervise 2-3 part-time staff and any student work-study positions.
- Supervise specific tasks in the garden, such as plant installation and labeling.
- Works with facilities to submit and track all Facilities Modification Request forms.
- Work with the foundation office to promote the needs of the garden and purchase materials with foundation funds to satisfy donor requests.
- Purchase materials for plant sales from multiple vendors.
- Oversee vendors’ payments made through purchasing cards and GSU Panthermart purchasing system.
- Maintain knowledge of plants needed for plant sales based on customer interest.
- Facilitate the addition of new vendors in PantherMart.
- Oversee GSU Botanical Garden Credit Card Machine and GSU Marketplace account.
- Oversee and maintain the NPBG Point of Sale system, including inventory, cost/profit analysis, UPCs, and generating labels for all plants.
- Handle all monies and make deposits working with the business office.
- Act as a liaison with community members and garden updates.
- Work with the GSU publicity office to document and advertise garden events and garden impact.
- Oversee propagation of plants for plant sales and use in other garden projects and oversee garden staff to ensure plants are properly propagated and taken care of.
- Act as a liaison with plant conservation groups to increase the impact of the garden’s conservation efforts.
- Organize and manage student internships to encourage college-to-career connections for our students.
- Organize and recruit community and GSU volunteers to assist with garden needs.
- Recruit speakers & organize garden seminar schedule.
- Act as a liaison with community groups and garden collaborations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree and five years of administrative experience: or high school diploma or GED and nine years of administrative; or a combination of education and related experience.
Preferred Hiring Qualifications:
- Native Plant Knowledge
- Must be able to pass background and credit checks.
- Must have reliable transportation.
- Must be available to work weekends.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Successful candidates must be self-motivated and function with minimal supervision.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work in inclement weather conditions.
- Experience working with and management of volunteers.
