General Description
The Aviation Department which operates the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and North Perry Airport is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Control Room Operator. The Control Room Operator will be responsible for monitoring the Maintenance Division's Control Room Displays which provide pertinent operational and maintenance information on the various equipment throughout the Airport Campus to include Passenger Boarding Bridges, Baggage Handling Systems and Building Automation and HVAC systems and mechanical equipment as they come on board. This position will communicate to all appropriate parties when problems affect normal operations and dispatch technicians to handle service calls and alert maintenance personnel through radio communications. In Addition, the Control Room Operators function as a central communication point.**Must be able to work nights, holidays and weekends**
General Description

The purpose of this class within the organization is to provide monitoring of Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport's Passenger Boarding Bridges, Baggage Handling Systems, Building Automation and HVAC Systems.
Works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Requires two (2) years' experience in the maintenance of Airport Baggage Systems, Passenger Boarding Bridges or relevant airport mechanical systems.
Special Certifications and Licenses
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License class "E" or higher for duration of appointment.
Ability to obtain Airport security and customs badging and maintain for duration of appointment.
Preferences
  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant field.
  • Allen Bradley PLC and I/O construction, commissioning and/or programming experience demonstrated by a Vendor Certification.
  • Maximo Work Order System Experience.
  • Maintenance Knowledge/Experience with Passenger Boarding Bridges.
  • Maintenance Knowledge/Experience with Baggage Handling Systems.

All Aviation Maintenance Division employees must be able to perform rotational shift work and/or overtime (holidays, weekends and emergencies) in support of operational needs in a twenty-four (24) hour per day/seven (7) days per week operation and in accordance with a collective bargaining agreement.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.
Monitors the Control Room displays which provide pertinent operational and maintenance information on the various equipment throughout the Airport Campus to include Passenger Boarding Bridges, Baggage Handling Systems and Building Automation and HVAC systems and mechanical equipment as they come on board.
Communicates with all appropriate parties when problems affect normal operations and dispatches technicians to handle service calls.
Alerts maintenance personnel through radio communications and functions as a central communication point.
Analyzes data and determines course of action required to correct issues.
Coordinates and monitors unimpeded daily start-ups by reviewing start-up check lists and procedures; make sure the systems are operating at full capacity.
Interfaces directly with the Airport staff, Airlines, and TSA and collectively makes operational decisions when required to choose alternative baggage systems routes and implement back-up/failback procedures, as required.
Operates computerized work management system, scheduling applications and processing data to provide work management reports; prepares and analyzes statistics on completed work activities; maintains records of all completed work orders and new requests in order to establish backlog control.
Makes operational decisions, initiating and coordinating implementation of any backup/failback procedures necessary to allow continued operations (i.e. choosing alternative routes using plow diverts, coordination with user airlines and Transportation Security Agency (TSA), etc.)
Skillfully operates various vehicles as required for Airport Maintenance.
Troubleshoots field maintenance issues, as needed.
Performs related work as assigned.

Physical Demands
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
Performs light work that involves sitting and viewing monitors most of the time. Also performs medium work that involves walking, standing, stooping, or stretching; also involves lifting or exerting up to 25 pounds of force on a occasional and recurring basis. Must have exceptional skill, adeptness, and speed in the use of fingers, hands, or limbs in tasks involving very close tolerances or limits of accuracy.

Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.
Involves routine and frequent exposure to moving machinery or traffic. Extreme heat and/or cold; wet or humid conditions.
