The Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is looking for an Aircraft Mechanic Inspector Lead for Rotary Wing to join the DNR Air Operations Team for the State of Washington's largest firefighting department. The purpose objectives of the Aircraft Mechanic Inspector Lead is to provide direction, mentorship, standardization of maintenance, and oversight Mechanics/Inspectors. The Aircraft Mechanic Inspector Lead reports to the DNR Wildland Fire Management Division's Aviation Mechanic Supervisor - RW. In Olympia DNR Maintenance Hanger and field position in Olympia Washington at the Olympia Airport.
Duties
Responsibilities:
Duty: Lead, Maintenance, Troubleshooting, Repairs, Inspections
Tasks include:
  • Assume Aircraft Mechanic - Rotary Wing Supervisor Duties when AMS is not available;
  • At the direction of the Aircraft Mechanic Supervisor - Fixed Wing provides leadership and oversight of fixed wing maintenance and oversight of section assigned Aircraft Mechanics;
  • Provides spot checks and recommendations to junior mechanics;
  • Provides training and professional development to junior mechanics;
  • Performs Aircraft Mechanic duties to include inspections, testing, cleaning, adjustments, replacements, repairs of all aircraft parts, pieces, components, and issued items using approved FAA/OEM, Military, DNR, and Factory Approved Policies and Procedures;
  • Follows the WA DNR Maintenance Operations Manual to complete department maintenance policies from guidance set forth in U.S. Army, I.C.A.P, OEM, State Directives & Policies, FEPP PAO aircraft maintenance and FAA direction for Civil aircraft maintenance operations;
  • Responsible for the line work, repairs, and inspections of the DNR's Fixed Wing Aircraft Maintenance program and schedule for Civil and Public Aircraft Operations (PAO);
  • Strictly follows safety, PPE, and HAZMAT rules and regulations;
  • Ensures aircraft, engine, and all associated aircraft parts are properly tracked for inventory, times, dates, RINs, service and condition for aircraft use IAW appropriate guidance and regulatory compliance;
  • Maintains aircraft and engine records in accordance with WA DNR MOM;
  • Coordinates and documents training programs with AMS-FW;
  • Coordinates with Automation Coordinator and inputs/updates automated maintenance program
  • Provide oversight on shop floor for daily scheduled work flows for junior mechanics;
  • Responsible for all assigned DNR aircraft tools, parts, inventory, aircraft, vehicles, and facilities use;
  • Trains, develops, and mentors junior mechanics assigned to section;
  • Provide aircraft status during the fire season when operating in a field environment to the AMS-RW;
  • Serves as a DNR's Subject Matter Lead for Fixed Wing aircraft maintenance;
  • Recommends status of aircraft to the RW AMS once inspections are complete;
  • Assist Fixed Wing maintenance section as time allows.
  • When on Standby Duty be prepared to be dispatched state-wide within 30 minutes of alert;
  • Have dispatch maintenance vehicle prepared, packed, fueled, and ready for use once dispatch is received;
  • Conduct needed aircraft field maintenance, replacements, and repairs as directed by the Fixed Wing Aircraft Mechanic Supervisor (AMS);
  • When dispatched be prepared for extensions as needed to support department Air Operations;
  • Inform AMS immediately when on dispatch for any un-scheduled maintenance or unplanned events affecting trip plan.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 3 years' experience operating as an FAA Qualified Airframe and Power Plant Mechanic or higher maintenance position within the last 6 years and 1 year experience on Rotary Wing Turbine Aircraft and be qualified FAA Inspector Authorization (IA) actively working in the IA role.
  • 2 years' experience working as a qualified Turbine Helicopter Aircraft Mechanic.

  • Perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with applicable laws, regulations and public records retention and requests are followed.
  • Advanced level of knowledge required to conduct daily business in the aviation program aircraft testing and diagnostic equipment; safe practices.

Special Requirements and Conditions of Employment:
  • Federal Aviation Administration Aircraft & Powerplant license (Current)
  • FAA Inspector Authorized (IA) (Current)
  • Personally Owned tools to conduct aircraft maintenance
  • About 80% of work is Aviation Hanger, and 20% is field oriented at locations throughout the State.
  • Considerable travel may be required during fire season.
  • A valid unrestricted driver's license and have two years of driving experience. This position requires driving as an essential function. Finalists and/or interview candidates will be asked to provide a driving record from all states in which they have held a license during the past three years.
Desired Qualifications:
  • 2 Years' Experience in Aviation Shop environment or 14 CFR Part 145 operation as a shop lead or supervisor.
  • Aircraft Maintenance Systems Familiarity.
  • Incident Command System Qualifications.
  • Fixed Wing Maintenance Experience.
  • Familiarity with Kodiak K100, P68, B206L4 and or UH-1H
