Do you enjoy working with Air Quality Data, computer applications or innovative air monitoring technology? The Monitoring and Laboratory Division's Operations and Data Support Section is seeking someone who will be part of a team that administers an Air QualityManagement System, uses open source applications to maintain a unique data acquisition system, and provides technical support for operation of California Air Resources Board (CARB)'s ambient air monitoring programs.
The incumbent will work with CARB, local air pollution control agencies and the United States Environmental Protection Agency (U.S.EPA) to provide technical support, develop standard operating procedures and provide training. Additional work includes evaluating and testing prototype Air Quality monitoring and sampling methods, data acquisition systems, instrumentation and procedures to improve efficiency and accuracy of the state and local air monitoring networks.

Working Conditions
This position may be eligible for hybrid in-office work and in-state telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the agency and is based on the California Air resource Boards' (CARB) current telework policy. While the CARB may support telework, some in-person attendance is also required.
The p ositions at the CARB may be eligible for telework with in-person attendance based on the operational needs of the position under Government Code 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California, subject to the candidate meeting telework eligibility criteria set forth in the CalEPA telework policy and/or future program need. Employees not residing in California are not eligible for telework. Regardless of hybrid telework eligibility, all employees may be required to report to the position's designated headquarters location at their own expense, as indicated on their duty statement.

Desirable Qualifications In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
The most competitive applicant should possess knowledge of various databases (Structured Query Language (SQL), MySQL, MariaDB, Access), open source applications, general scripting programs, HyperText Markup Language (HTML) editors, network architecture and communications, firewalls, port forwarding, broadband modems, cellular hotspots, and the associated security practices of these systems. Applicant must have ability to work cooperatively, as a Team Member, with Federal, State and local air pollution control district personnel to analyze and solve technical problems that relate to air monitoring operations, administering Data Management/data acquisition systems, and remote communications. Knowledge of ambient air monitoring regulations, ambient air monitoring operations, quality assurance of air monitoring systems is highly desirable. Applicant should have excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to prepare and review reports, equipment specifications and support contracts. The successful applicant should posses analytical and problem solving skills, strong interpersonal and leadership skills, initiative and the ability work independently. The successful applicant must be willing to work in the field on occasion.
