Position Summary
The After School Teacher/Instructor will work directly with a group of 30-40 students, providing homework assistance, academic support and enrichment activities After School on site at KIPP Bayview Elementary. Program leaders' ability to establish authority through leadership, communication, and most importantly patience, is essential to success. Must be able to commit to working throughout the entire school year.
About the School
KIPP San Francisco Bayview Elementary (Grades TK-4) is a public charter middle school located in the San Francisco's Bayview/Hunter's Point neighborhood. Bayview Elementary is known for their rigorous academics, culturally responsive teaching practices, and their comprehensive arts program.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience:
  • A minimum of 1-2 years work experience in a youth development organization planning and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of young people, or equivalent experience.
  • CPR/First Aid certification
Education:
  • Current or recently graduated college students that are seeking employment in working with youth
  • Currently enrolled high school students or those with a high school diploma
Knowledge/skills required:
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to deal effectively with youth including discipline problems.
  • Demonstrated ability working with young people, parents and community leaders.
  • Unquestioned integrity and commitment to KIPP Public School Northern California's mission and values
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Implement After School activities within assigned core program areas, including academic assistance, homework club, fitness/recreation, arts, and enrichment activities.
  • Use positive behavior and classroom management techniques with children.
  • Act to ensure the safety of members and others, and ensure facility cleanliness.
  • Participate in all activities including preparation, set-up, take-down and clean-up.
  • Assist in documenting program schedules, lesson plans, curriculum, youth participation and outcomes.
  • Assist with program registration, customer service, and community outreach
  • Communicate and work effectively with students, staff, parents, school personnel, and community partners.
  • Accurately track student attendance (sign-in/sign-out sheets)
Physical, Mental and Environmental Demands

Physical:
Ability to navigate office and school campuses, and hold meetings in different spaces. Ability to stand and walk around for extended periods of time. Ability to access and utilize technology. Occasional lifting/carrying of equipment 1-20 lbs.
Mental:
Stress of deadlines and normal work standards, ability to analyze problems and generate alternatives, work with interruptions, concentrate for long periods of time, read, calculate, perform routine math problems, memorize and recall objects and people.
Environmental:
Office, classroom, and large outdoor spaceenvironments subject to constant interruptions and distractions. In emergencycontext(e.g., pandemic) work may be conducted virtually fully or partially for extended periods of time or longer, and the expectation is that the individual will establish a productive, remote work environment (e.g., ability to stay connected through different technology means). It may require remote work as current public health guidelines warrant.
Classification
Part time, non-exempt. Approximately 12-19 hours/week, Monday through Friday from 3:00PM to 6:00PM.
