POSITION SUMMARY
The After School Instructor reports to the Youth Program Coordinator and provides After School Matters program content and schedules students to receive tutoring based on their academic needs. After School Matters offers a Creative Art Training Program and an Apprenticeship Program.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- For the Creative Art Training Program; assist teens in exploring different aspects of art and art skills through painting and crafting. Teens will also learn to apply what they have learned through the art program into their daily activities by understanding the different steps to decision making and goal setting. Teens will work together and gain communication skills through individual and group projects and reflections which can be related to future career development.
- For the Apprenticeship Program; teens will act as interns in various departments through CASL focusing on basic job training, communication, and social-behavior skills that help form a student’s employment skills and provide students with insight into various career paths.
- Provide tutoring designed to assist high school students in preparing for the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT).
- Provide diversified, guided activities that supplement learning goals for students as needed, if needed.
- Work together with other staff to lead small group discussions and workshops on selected topics as needed.
- Expose a diverse group of teen participants to various facets of content area-specific industry while fostering a positive, safe, and collaborative atmosphere for all teen participants.
- Maintain knowledge of current industry trends, technology and concepts
- Prepare, organize, and supervise the weekly lessons on content area
- Develop, plan, and implement high-quality related field trips, master classes, events, and guest visits to enhance instruction and training
- Provide supervision during program field trips and other youth engagement opportunities
- Report all problems or concerns and program updates to After School Matters Program Specialist to maintain consistent lines of communication throughout the program session
- Attend all planning and program dates, including: Instructor orientation, professional development workshops, meetings and other required sessions
- Participate in the recruitment, interview, and selection process of teen program participants
- Manage and track program activities such as attendance, interview outcomes, enrollment, evaluation surveys, and pertinent student records in an online data tracking system (CitySpan).
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education/Experience:
- Current college student or college graduate
Skills/Knowledge:
- Fluency in spoken and written English, bilingual in English and Chinese preferred.
- Basic computer skills required, including Microsoft Office, online search, and entering.
- Skills in arts
- Good communication skills with youth and parents.
- Basic end-user level understanding and experience with Salesforce is a plus.
- Demonstrated practical knowledge of content area
- Creative problem-solving skills
- Customer service skills; ability to effectively communicate with a variety of stakeholders (teen participants, parents, ASM programs staff, vendors, etc.)
Physical Demands:
· Mainly work in classroom involving prolonged periods of sitting, walking and standing.
Environment and Scheduling:
· Spring hours begin in February and run through mid-May. Applicants are required to work Tuesday-Thursday between 4-6pm with additional flexible hours for interviewing students, data entry and other meetings or tasks as needed for a total of 75 hours. Summer and Fall opportunities are available and can be tailored to the candidates schedule.
· Must be flexible and available to work alternate hours when necessary.
· Work is performed mainly indoors but occasionally out for field trips or meetings.
