Program Description:
A Summer Camp designed for students to explore the art of expression in Creative Writing through different fun and exciting themes. In classes led by expert teaching artists and supported by ChiArts camp counselors, campers will receive pre-professional training in the artistic discipline and create original pieces for performance and showcase.
Job Summary:
The Creative Writing Instructor will design and deliver curriculum incorporating story writing, poetry and other literary concepts for daily classes to students. The instructor will organize and host engaging and fun afternoon activities relating to Creative Writing and prepare students for a culminating showcase on Friday, July 26. In addition, instructors will serve as role models and mentors for ChiArts student apprentices who are seriously interested in gaining experience in teaching and sharing through the arts.
Qualifications:
- Must be able to commit to working for the entire 3 weeks of camp, July 8-26th. Monday-Friday, 9:00 am-2:00 pm as well as a training session in June
- Experience in middle school curriculum development and working with middle school students
- Must be enthusiastic, energetic, and have outstanding communication skills
- Organization, leadership, and a dedication to working with children are essential
- Commitment to sharing and learning through the arts and the ChiArts mission
- Excellent classroom management skills
Compensation: In alignment with the starting instructional rate listed in the collective bargaining agreement for the 2023-2024 school year. Current Instructors are compensated at their hourly rate.
