Job Title: Dance Instructor
Department: Extended Day Grant/Middle School
Reports to: Program Manager
Location: Hackett Middle School, North Albany Middle School
Salary: $100 per session
Schedule: Part-time, 3 hours per day, 2 days per week. 1 Day at each location
(This is a grant-funded position that operates only from October 10, 2023, to May 23, 2024)
Overview of Your Role
The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Capital Area is seeking a creative and enthusiastic Dance Instructor to join our team. This role plays a vital part in our commitment to providing engaging and artistic experiences for youth in our community. The Dance Instructor will be responsible for planning, teaching, and choreographing dance routines that promote self-expression, teamwork, and confidence among program participants.
KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):
- Develop and deliver a diverse dance curriculum that aligns with the organization's goals and values.
- Plan and conduct dance classes that cater to different age groups and skill levels, fostering a love for dance and movement.
- Teach various dance styles such as ballet, jazz, hip-hop, contemporary, and cultural dances.
- Choreograph age-appropriate routines for performances, showcases, and events.
- Create a positive and inclusive atmosphere where participants feel comfortable expressing themselves through dance.
- Provide constructive feedback to participants, helping them improve their technique, coordination, and artistic expression.
- Collaborate with other program staff to integrate dance activities with other program elements.
- Organize and coordinate dance performances and presentations for families and the community.
- Promote teamwork, respect, and support among participants, encouraging a sense of camaraderie.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of participants during dance classes and performances.
- Maintain a clean and organized dance space, storing equipment and props appropriately.
- Uphold the organization's policies and procedures, particularly those related to child safety and welfare.
- Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities as required.
CREDENTIALS, SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
- Previous experience as a dance instructor, choreographer, or performer.
- Proficiency in multiple dance styles and techniques.
- High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
- Possession of a valid photo ID
- Reliable transportation (Multiple Locations)
- One year of direct experience working with youth and teens
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Group leadership skills, including an understanding of group dynamics.
- Ability to engage and connect with youth through the art of words.
Creativity and the ability to develop engaging and interactive lesson plans.
