Become an Advisor of Energy Contracts at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. In this job, you'll be responsible for managing, negotiating, planning, evaluating, and administering a portfolio of Energy and capacity contracts on behalf of SCE's customers while ensuring compliance with the State of California carbon emissions reduction and other policy goals and related regulatory targets. The products include a full range of resources, from traditional renewable and alternative energy resources to bringing to market new and innovative energy storage resources and other distributed energy resources such as demand response and other energy efficiency products.

  • Lead SCE's relationship with counterparties through project development, project on-boarding, amendments, consents, and on-going contract management.
  • Manage a large portfolio of complex contracts, typically with terms of 10 to 20 years, and a monetary value in the tens of millions of dollars over the life of a contract.
  • Lead or support cross-department collaborator teams in the administration of short- and long-term Energy Contracts with independent power producers, financial institutions, and other market participants.
  • Evaluate and handle performance of counterparties upon contract requirements, review payments, handle contract disputes, and make strategic recommendations to maximize benefits to customers.
  • Work closely with the planning, day-ahead operations, real-time, risk, credit, legal, and settlement groups, with primary responsibility to ensure implementation and proper management of each contract from inception to termination.
  • Lead or support discussions with senior management and/or regulators regarding contract negotiations and strategic management decisions.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for several types of Energy Contracts including renewables, conventional power, combined heat and power, natural gas, and broker agreements.
  • Lead or support and handle multiple projects simultaneously as the primary point-of-contact with internal and external partners.
  • Prepare reports/presentations to senior management, participate in industry forums, review industry documents, respond to regulatory documents/filings/data requests, and support accurate financial reporting.
Qualifications


The essentials

  • Seven (7) or more years of relevant work experience in the energy industry, finance or insurance industry dealing with energy products, the broader procurement field, or any other contract-specific business activities.
  • Three (3) years of specific experience with energy or capacity contracts, managing or leading contract negotiation, contract administration, contract disputes, and/or trading or marketing energy commodities.

The preferred

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Engineering, or related field.
  • Experience negotiating and managing Energy Contracts such as renewables, energy storage, conventional power, combined heat and power, or natural gas.
  • Experience with deregulated energy markets, related to both physical operations and regulatory structures.
  • Experience with energy, emission master, or broker agreements.
  • Experience interacting with state, local and federal regulatory agencies.
  • Experience analyzing complex financial, regulatory, and/or business problems.
  • Experience developing strategies for complex and competitive situations involving multiple variables.
  • Experience managing project scoping and planning, and driving projects to completion.
  • Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Visio, and Project.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports and present complex technical information to a wide audience, in non-technical language.
  • Effective resource and project planning, decision making, results delivery, team building, and the ability to stay current with relevant technology and innovation.
  • Strong ethics, influence and negotiation, leadership, interpersonal skills, communication, and the ability to effectively manage stress and engage in continuous learning.

  • This position's work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to reside in the state of California. Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage.
