Job Description
Under the supervision of the the Clinic Manager, APP will work with AHRC’s medical team in delivering prevention and treatment options to underserved communities including but not limited to people living With HIV/AIDS (PLWHA), HCV (PLWHCV), and STIs, and high risk African-American males and females and their sexual partners, youth and young adults of 18-29, men who have sex with men (MSM), Sex workers, People Who Inject Drugs (PWIDs) and People Who Use Drugs (PWUDs), and homeless individuals. This position may be asked to attend local, regional, and national training.
Responsibilities Include, but not limited to:
- Interview patients, collects medical history, performs physical examinations/assessments, and collects specimens for lab testing..
- Provides education, counseling, and treatment plans to patients.
- Provide HIV/HCV/STI screening (point of care and self testing, urine screening, and serology screening) and counseling as needed to at-risk populations in compliance with strict standards of CDC and Departments of Health.
- Administer vaccine and conduct phlebotomy as needed.
- Interpret test results to medical assistants and patients.
- Communicates patient progress and barriers with AHRC case managers.
- Secures client information and maintains client confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records, keeping patient information confidential.
- Follows OSHA guidelines relating to proper use of handling PPE, needles, bloodborne pathogens, and disposing of biohazardous materials.
- Serves and protects the agency by adhering to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements.
- Conducts routine inventory and requests supplies as needed.
- Ensures all labs are collected, stored, and transferred appropriately.
- Works with Specialty pharmacy to ensure medication inventory at the clinic is up to date.
- Enhances clinical understanding specially in infectious diseases including but not limited to reviewing new protocols released by CDC, DPH, and articles presented by preceptors (Dr. Kalapila, Dr. Vettese, and Dr. McDonald) and attending in person and online training identified by AHRC.
Required Education and Experience:
- Masters in Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner along with valid Georgia License to practice.
- MAT waiver is preferred.
- 2+ years of qualified experience; or an equivalent combination of training, education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
- Knowledge of HIV, PrEP, HCV, and STI treatment, required.
- Ability to adhere to OSHA regulations, federal, state, and local regulations.
Required Skills & Abilities:
- Computer literacy with strong knowledge of Google Drive and Microsoft Office.
- Ability to communicate effectively and clearly, both verbally as well as in writing.
- Displays strong customer service skills with the ability to interact with staff in a professional, calm, patient, and welcoming manner.
- Possesses strong time-management skills with the ability to meet deadlines under pressure while handling multiple projects.
- Excellent organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail when processing paperwork.
- Exceptional attendance record with the ability to consistently arrive to work on time.
- Highly motivated with a strong work ethic and the ability to work both independently and in a group environment.
- Ability to work in a high-stressed environment and interact with marginalized individuals and communities.
- Proven ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
- Displays respect for peers, supervisors, and clients.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs at times
- Participation in community outreach which involves prolonged periods of standing (Community Outreach initiatives occur year-round)
- Ability to work efficiently in adverse weather conditions.
