Job description

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is an independent, nonprofit organization providing adult cancer treatment and groundbreaking research focused on cancer and infectious diseases. Based in Seattle, Fred Hutch is the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in Washington.

With a track record of global leadership in bone marrow transplantation, HIV/AIDS prevention, immunotherapy and COVID-19 vaccines, Fred Hutch has earned a reputation as one of the world’s leading cancer, infectious disease and biomedical research centers. Fred Hutch operates eight clinical care sites that provide medical oncology, infusion, radiation, proton therapy and related services, and network affiliations with hospitals in five states. Together, our fully integrated research and clinical care teams seek to discover new cures to the world’s deadliest diseases and make life beyond cancer a reality.

At Fred Hutch we value collaboration, compassion, determination, excellence, innovation, integrity and respect. These values are grounded in and expressed through the principles of diversity, equity and inclusion. Our mission is directly tied to the humanity, dignity and inherent value of each employee, patient, community member and supporter. Our commitment to learning across our differences and similarities make us stronger. We seek employees who bring different and innovative ways of seeing the world and solving problems. Fred Hutch is in pursuit of becoming an anti-racist organization. We are committed to ensuring that all candidates hired share our commitment to diversity, anti-racism and inclusion.

The Intake Blood and Marrow Transplant (BMT) advance Practice Provider is part of the Intake Department at the FHCC South Lake Union Campus. You will provide a high level of triage prior to patient arrival into the BMT outpatient clinic.  This team of clinicians works closely with attending physicians and principal investigators to determine a patient’s clinical eligibility for these therapies. Once chosen, you will join a group of more than 230 NPs and PAs across the FHCC practice areas.

Complex tasks performed by the coordinators may include review of records, providing case summaries to determine eligibility for research protocol and therapies, test/result coordination with referring MD sites, scheduling of radiation therapy and cellular therapy processes prior to arrival.  Essentially, the Intake team of clinicians set incoming patients up for entry to the BMT clinics in order that when they arrive, patients can quickly be evaluated further by the outpatient teams prior to start of therapy.

  • Provide clinical support to the BMT program in the coordination of scheduling patients.
  • Includes working with internal FHCC and referring physicians to plan treatment based on clinical assessments.
  • Serving as a resource to internal and referring physicians for information on availability of protocols for a variety of clinical scenarios.
  • Working with patients and family members to provide education and instructions.
  • Interfacing with the FHCC Revenue Cycle office and insurance company representatives to obtain financial coverage for treatment.
  • Coordinating with various departments within the center to schedule BMT including radiation oncology, cellular therapy, apheresis, research RNs, the outpatient clinic and others.
  • The majority of this activity occurs via e-mail and telephone thus excellent written and spoken communication skills are imperative.

  • Must be a graduate of a Physician Assistant training program or appropriate Nurse Practitioner program and be able to practice in the state of Washington (licensed).
  • Have National Certification as appropriate for profession
  • Strong oral and written communication skills required.
  • Basic computer skills are essential.
  • Must be able to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Must enjoy long-term relationships with patients undergoing intense therapy.
  • Oncology or BMT experience preferred.

A statement describing your commitment and contributions toward greater diversity, equity, inclusion, and antiracism in your career or that will be made through your work at Fred Hutch is requested of all finalists.

The annual base salary range for this position is from $120,868.80 to $191,027.20 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.

Relocation assistance may be available for this position.
