The Opportunity
Currently seeking qualified candidates for an Advanced Manufacturing Engineer position, embedded at the U.S. Army Rock Island Arsenal, IL. This role implements U.S. Army project orders under an OTA contract-vehicle related to novel additive manufacturing. While sponsored by the Army Development Command Ground Vehicle System Center in Detroit, MI, projects (including research on the world’s largest metal 3D printer) are performed at the Rock Island Arsenal Joint Manufacturing Technology Center, with associated government and contractor personnel.
What You'll Do
Work closely with ASTRO America colleagues as well as U.S. Army and other government customers (and key industry and academic partners), to carry out technical program plan and ensure achievement of established milestones and deliverables for specific applied research project orders.
TheAdvanced Manufacturing Engineer is a self-starting additive manufacturing specialist, analyst, and researcher helping complete government-sponsored work on-time and on-budget.
Project Support - 85%
Contribute to Army-sponsored research and task orders on behalf of ASTRO America, supporting principal investigators in proposals, implementation, and conclusion stages of government-sponsored projects as assigned.
Support principal investigators ensuring projects remain on-schedule and on-budget, developing appropriate documentation and complying with OTA terms and conditions.
Execute engineering scope according to technical contracts, change orders, and direction of government customer and ASTRO management.
Help organize workshops, draft technical reports, and undertake market research in several disciplines in projects with significant scope or a combination of large projects.
Maintain high levels of quality and responsiveness to meet requirements in alignment with government and ASTRO America’s expectations.
Ensure appropriate task completion as assigned by ASTRO management and coordinate activities with external subawardees, vendors, or partners.
Review project plans, calculations & specifications, assume responsible charge as needed.
Business Development Responsibilities – 15%
Participate and partner with members Quad Cities community and ASTRO America colleagues throughout the organization to advance common goals.
Support proposal-writing for government projects, contributing to drafts, working individually and in concert with company leadership and others.
Maintain and build positive relationships with government and industry partners.
Participate with cross functional team on strategic initiatives for the organization.
Make presentations on behalf of ASTRO America to relevant conferences, summits, and forums, ensuring positive communication of organization’s goals and achievements as appropriate.
What We Expect from You
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or related fields
2-3 years of experience in additive manufacturing and/or mechanical/materials engineering.
Background in Additive Manufacturing is required; experience working in aerospace and Defense with the U.S. government is preferred.
Strong Program Management track record required; program management certification preferred.
Must be analytical, self-motivated, and possess the ability to work in high-pressure situations while maintaining a positive, enthusiastic, and collaborative attitude
Focused and passionate around internal engagement and maximizing development of others
Strong business acumen and industry knowledge
Knowledge of CAD, Additive Manufacturing, and other related technology is preferred.
Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, management, public and external agencies
High level of initiative and demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects with clear expectations and highly responsive, internally and externally
Excellent presentation and verbal/written communications skills
Display a high level of initiative and explores new opportunities while understanding the risk to the organization
Proven experience in CAD (e.g. SolidWorks, Creeo) and Microsoft Software Applications (Word, Excel, Power Point, and Project), and other software depending on specialty.
Ability to meet requirements of a U.S. government contractor

Pay: $60,000-$85,000 per year
