Advana/Business Analyst Professionalswill support the development and implementation of the Advana Data Analytics platform in the U.S. Army, U.S. Air Force and other DoD components. Staff member(s) will:
- Utilize strong technical and analytical skills to normalize finance and accounting data from multiple sources to support Department of Defense (DoD) audit readiness and delivery;
- Use expertise in DoD financial management, internal controls, audit readiness, and project management, develop and implement solutions for the DoD’s complex financial reporting and audit challenges.
- Leverage understanding of common data model design, data acquisition and ingestion, and the application development lifecycle to bridge gaps between technologists and defense financial managers, ensuring software solutions meet audit priorities.
You’ll work closely with DoD customers to understand their data challenges and requirements, digging into their data-rich environments to identify the key pieces of their financial reporting puzzles. Lead stakeholder interviews and fact-finding efforts, develop business rules for customer data sets, build reconciliations to support completeness validations, generate responses to auditor requests, and standardize the DoD’s approach to audit response.
You’ll provide your customers with structured solutions for responding to DoD Inspector General, independent public accountant, and internal audit inquiries. As a Data Analyst, you will contribute to the transformation and consolidation of disparate data sets, building databases, metrics, dashboards, and applications to support audit preparation and management decision-making.

Required Skills
- 5+ years of DoD or Fortune 500 experience in the areas of financial reporting, audit, internal controls, FIAR/ audit readiness and/or data analysis;
- Knowledge of the USSGL chart of accounts, USSGL account transactions, Treasury Federal Account Symbols and Titles (FAST), DoD Financial Management Regulation (FMR), Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards (GAGAS), OMB Circular A-123, and other related guidance
- Experience acquiring accounting data, building databases, generating audit samples, and responding to provided by client (PBC) requests
- BA, BS or BBA degree in accounting, finance, business management, statistics, mathematics, engineering, computer science, or related area
- CPA, CGFM, CDFM, CISA, CIA or other related designation (preferred but not required)
- Preferred: Experience with Scrum Agile development; integrating of databases; utilizing BI platforms to create dashboards and reports; experience with relational databases
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with a demonstrated ability to develop and maintain outstanding client relationships
Other experience which is helpful
- Experience with DoD financial statement audit process, and FIAR audit processes including audit liaison
- Experience with modern relational databases, including MySQL or PostgreSQL
- Experience with Big Data systems (e.g., Hadoop, HDFS, Hive, Cloudera)
- Experience providing recommendations using dashboards, visualizations, or reports using BI platforms such as QlikSense or Tableau
- Ability to manipulate and integrate databases with SQL, SAS, or other languages
- Ability to comprehend stakeholder needs effectively, communicate development plans, and track progress milestones
- Possession of excellent communication skills, including briefing senior leadership
- Possession of excellent quantitative skills, including statistical analysis, process design, and data management
