Full Time- Hourly ( M-F 8:45-3:30)

Hourly Rate: $20-$26

 

R.O.A.D.’s Program Instructors will work directly with an assigned group of approximately four (4) members with Developmental Disabilities, acting as a positive adult role model, coach, and mentor.

 

Program Instructor’s primary objective will be to plan and implement a variety of daily enrichment activities including, but not limited to: social-emotional well-being, character development, project based learning, S.T.R.E.A.M., fitness and recreation. 

 

This position is responsible for:

  • Working directly with an assigned group of approximately 4 members
  • Preparing a safe, engaging, and creative learning environment either in-person and/or virtually
  • Establishing a positive rapport with R.O.A.D.’s members and co-workers
  • Acting as a positive adult role model, coach and mentor to members 

 

A Program Instructor’s ability to establish authority through leadership, communication and most importantly patience, will be required to provide R.O.A.D.’s members with the stable and nurturing atmosphere that is necessary for success.

The Program Instructor position is offered in collaboration with San Diego Regional Center (SDRC) and aligns with the SDRC calendar to provide support and social enrichment to members in the daily program.

 

Due to COVID-19 regulations from health authorities and government agencies, BGCO’s R.O.A.D.’s Program Instructors must abide by BGCO policy, procedure, and expectations during this temporary time – including, but not limited to, standards for social/physical distancing and all public safety/health recommendations during the pandemic.

Work Environment

 

This position requires a person who is able to work in a bustling environment, with vivacious energy, many distractions and a great deal of laughter and joy.   Supervision of members is an integral part of our work.   Program Instructors must be able to plan and implement activities in-person and/or virtually using a variety of resources and tools including but not limited to: zoom rooms, google hangout, or other approved means of virtual communication.

Safety is of the utmost of importance, thus planning and preparing is paramount.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead a group of approximately four (4) members virtually and/or in-person in an instructional setting, maintaining high standards for behavior and safety.
  • Implement and facilitate access and engagement in virtual program activities that are safe, fun, engaging, and developmentally appropriate and meet BGCO standards. Participate in full group activities with all R.O.A.D.’s members and staff team virtually.
  • Serve as a positive adult role model for adults in the program through appropriate dress, speech, attitude, and courtesy.
  • Communicate in a professional manner with R.O.A.D.’s members, staff team, and supervisor on a regular basis regarding program activities.
  • Plan and implement activities that align with member’s program goals, enrichment, and physical activity utilizing curriculum and materials provided by the program.
  • Create an engaging environment that fosters a sense of belonging.
  • Support adults in making positive behavior choices and take disciplinary measures when appropriate that align with BGCO policies and procedures.
  • Engage members by following, implementing, and assisting in creating lesson plans.
  • Ensure members’ safety by assisting in set up, break down, and ongoing maintenance of shared program spaces in an effort to keep the BGCO or community site clean, safe, and orderly.
  • Promote positive interactions between staff team, volunteers, and members in accordance with established SDRC and BGCO guidelines.
  • Maintain members’ safety by keeping comprehensive records of member attendance, communication, and all other BGCO documentation as required.
  • Identify members’ needs and communicate to Program Manager and Director of Operations, parents, and volunteers as appropriate.
  • Participate in all required staff team meetings, trainings, and staff development activities.

Drug screening and a background check is required upon hire.
All BGCO Employees must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 with vaccination record submitted to HR at time of hire.
All BGCO Employees must pass DOJ LiveScan fingerprinting & LexisNexis federal criminal and sex-offender background check, pre-employment drug screening, and TB testing.
For the safety of our members and staff, convictions of any violent crimes, offenses related to drugs, or crimes against a child will disqualify candidates for employment at Boys & Girls Clubs of Oceanside.
