SalaryThis position will provide inclusive and intentional academic support and guidance for adult learners interested in Grand Valley. This role will also help support retention initiatives in adult degree programs. The ideal candidate will have experience with adult learners and familiarity with current trends and best practices in advising.
PRIMARY DUTIES:
Advising for current students and Pre-admissions advising support
- Meet individually with prospective and current students
- Create academic plans for graduation, clarify GVSU policies, refer students to campus resources
- Assist students in identifying educational opportunities aligned with personal and professional goals
- Audit, monitor, and evaluate individual student academic progress (including outreach to unregistered students)
Retention Support
- Identify and implement outreach for students experiencing academic difficulties and provide timely intervention strategies in adult degree programs
- Develop and promote communication and resources to benefit Adult Student success, including a monthly newsletter
- Create opportunities for students to connect inside classes with collaboration with alumni, career services, faculty…etc. Particularly in INT 100, INT 301, INT 495 • Pulse surveys as identified
- Identify ways to celebrate graduating students and build community with adult degree program alumni
Recruitment Support
- Support adult learner recruitment efforts
- Support recruiter as back up at events
- Performs other duties as required/assigned by supervisor
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Bachelor’s degree and two years of relevant experience in higher education, career advising, program planning, public administration, or human services related field
- Outstanding interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- An understanding of and preference for collaborative approaches to planning and problem-solving.
- Demonstrated innovative and independent decision making
- Demonstrated ability to work with adult learners
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrated experience working in a college setting with adult learners
- Familiarity with computer student information systems and web-based records and registration programs.
Working Conditions:
Normal office environment. Some travel may be required.
SALARY: Up to $47,750; commensurate with experience.
