Kitsap Regional Library seeks a highly motivated, innovative and dynamic Adult Services Librarian for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (Bremerton) location. The ideal candidate is passionate about providing excellent library service to adults, with an emphasis on public service, reader's advisory and new technology. This position works in collaboration with library staff to provide quality reference services, adult programming, and collection maintenance. Must have knowledge of various social media platforms, current trends in library services and adult literature. GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under limited supervision, the Adult Services Librarian position is responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing library services, programs, and outreach within the library and for the community. This position leads and supports the library's mission, vision, and values. Work is performed with significant opportunities for exercising independent judgment and initiative.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Master of Library Science Degree from an American Library Association accredited school and Washington State certification as a librarian or ability to obtain an MLS degree within three months of employment start date. This position is represented by the Washington Public Employees Association / WPEA Local 365. Must have or be able to obtain a driver's license.

BENEFITS & SALARY
This position is eligible to participate in our medical, dental, vision, basic life, AD&D, long term disability insurance plans, health reimbursement arrangement (HRA), as well as our employee assistance program. Additionally, they will receive 13 paid holidays throughout the calendar year along with 24 days of vacation leave, 12 days of sick leave, and 1 personal day each year.
Kitsap Regional Library participates in the Washington State Public Employees Retirement System (PERS). Employees are automatically eligible for the plan if they work a minimum of 16.25 hours per week (or 70 hour per month) during five months per year for two consecutive years.
Compensation range is $67,728.00-$88,361.73 per year DOE. Wages are determined depending on required and relevant experience and in alignment with internal equity.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

DUTIES:
- Demonstrates thorough knowledge of professional library principles, research expertise, reader's advisory, outreach, and presentation skills.
- Demonstrates skill in mentoring all levels of library employees by communicating the mission, vision, and values of the organization in a compelling and inspiring way, modeling desired behaviors, and providing an encouraging environment through ongoing interactions, coaching, teaching, and role modeling.
- Builds relationships through exceptional patron service and ongoing outreach to individuals and organizations in the community and within the organization.
- Takes ownership of the user experience by embracing new technologies, modifying the collection to meet patron needs, looking for new ways to reach patrons outside the library, and creating a sense of discovery and exploration in the branch.
- Anticipates trends that will impact libraries, literacy, publishing, and information technology. Embraces innovation and experimentation. Recommends thoughtful change to help the library stay relevant and vital.
- Demonstrates the ability to organize people and activities through project management. Can simplify complex processes, see opportunities for synergy and integration and apply appropriately.
- Constructs a detailed approach to training for patrons and staff on the use of library resources, educates staff, and models the use of such resources. Presents these classes and events for adult audiences so that they educate, inform, and inspire.
- Instructs patrons in the use of the full range of technology available to them, including the use of downloadable devices.
- Assists the Digital Branch Manager in developing and maintaining content for social media platforms such as the library's catalog, blog, and social media.
- Works with branch and service center staff on evaluating collections for weeding, replacements, and reallocations, as necessary.
- Maintains special collections.
- Keeps current with library trends and emerging technologies by attending conferences and participating in professional organizations and committees.
- May assist in the preparation of grant applications or other funding requests.
- May author professional articles for publication.
- Performs additional duties as assigned including serving on task forces, committees, etc.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to maintain regular and reliable attendance.
- Knowledge of program management; ability to plan, organize, direct and administer a major library service program or collection.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, patrons, user groups, community organizations, volunteer groups and to serve the public courteously.
- Ability to recognize and set priorities, and to use initiative and independent judgment in a variety of situations.
- Ability to learn and stay current with emerging technology, including digital media.
- Ability to operate standard office equipment, perform required data entry proficiently and utilize computer software and specialized programs.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing and to demonstrate professional level public speaking skills.
- Ability to work a varied schedule including evenings and weekends.

While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is required to:
- (CONTINUOUS) seeing, talking, hearing and manual dexterity.
- (FREQUENT) sitting for long periods of time, walking, standing, grasping, keyboarding and repetitive motion of hands/wrists.
- (OCCASIONAL) kneeling, stooping, reaching, bending, crouching, twisting and squatting.
- Requires the ability to lift, push, pull and carrying objects weighing up to 10 pounds and, occasionally, up to 25 pounds. Work is mainly performed indoors under office-type conditions. Certain librarian positions may be required to operate an automobile.

SCHEDULE
This is a full-time exempt position scheduled for 40 hours per week. The schedule will be determined by the supervisor upon hire and may include weekends and evenings. Please note that schedules are subject to change to meet the needs of the library.
