REPORTS TO: Director of Adult Education
SUPERVISES: N/A
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 10-month, part-time (.5) position. Other terms as set by the Board of Education in accordance with the New London Public Schools Unaffiliated Contract.
PRIMARY FUNCTION: To assist the Director in facilitating onsite and offsite State mandated English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), and citizenship classes.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Use a data and policy driven process based on the following programs and systems to inform program planning and improvement, resource allocation and training initiatives for I-BEST (Program Enhanced Projects Integrated Basic Education and Training) and IELCE (Integrated English Literacy and Civics Education) programs.
- LiteracyPro Reporting System (LACES)
- Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment Systems (CASAS)
- Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA)
- Eastern Connecticut Workforce Investment Board (EWIB)
- College and Career Readiness Standards (CCRS)
- Facilitate creative collaboration of the ESOL team to plan and deliver individualized instruction that accommodates special needs, diversity, and educational backgrounds of all students.
- Plan and coordinate school wide activities and special events related to English Language Development.
- Apply a culturally responsive approach and provide ongoing support to adult learners and staff.
- Collaborate with Adult Education administration to foster cohesion between all AE teams and team members.
- Assist with scheduling, coordination and oversight of day and evening ESOL classes.
- Lead professional development regarding effective teaching practices in ESOL instruction and other aligned professional development offerings for staff.
- Promote community and Adult Education centered professional organizations.
- Participate in educational conferences pertinent to adult, community, and career education.
- Keep current with research, trends, methods, and practices in local labor markets, vocational training, language acquisition and Adult Education.
- Support the general vision and mission of New London Public Schools and the goals and priorities of New London Adult and Continuing Education.
- Maintain regular attendance and professional appearance.
- Perform other related tasks as assigned by the director.
- State certification for Adult Education 088, 107
- Five (5) or more years of successful experience as a classroom teacher
- Demonstrated experience cultivating a climate of teamwork among a large and diverse staff
- Experience utilizing student performance data for program planning
- Strong interpersonal skills: ability to interact in an appropriate and professional manner with a diverse set of internal and external stakeholders
- Strong advocacy and presentation skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Flexibility to work a varied schedule including days, evenings and travel as needed
- Bilingual (English and Spanish)
- Experience as classroom teacher in a culturally diverse urban school
- Experience using College and Career Readiness Standards (CCRS) and English Language Proficiency (ELP) standards for Adult Education
- Evidenced skill in planning programs of instruction for adult learners
- Proficiency utilizing Adult Education assessment tools, CASAS eTesting, and data to meet requirements and performance measures as set forth by:
- The State of Connecticut Bureau of Health/Nutrition
- Family Services and Adult Education
- Adult Education and Family Literacy Act
- State of Connecticut WIOA Unified Plan
- EWIB performance criteria
SALARY: $35.00/hour
