Adjunct Instructor – Nonprofit Management Certificate Program
Overview:The Certificate in Nonprofit Management is designed for professionals to develop essential skills, the Certificate program provides education and training in:
- Foundational knowledge of nonprofit organizational management.
- Collaborative approaches to community challenges.
- Leadership theories and application.

- NPM 025—Management Communication Skills

Under the direct supervision of the Director of the Institute of Civic and Community Engagement, the Adjunct Instructor will be responsible for:· Delivering classroom instruction in the areas of nonprofit organizational management.· Keep abreast of current research, emerging issues, and best practices in nonprofit innovation, service delivery, and governance; ensure that the syllabus and instruction reflect those emerging issues/best practices.· Create, review, or edit course syllabus, annually.· Prepare and deliver materials and activities for 7 class meetings (approximately 11 hours of direct instructional time).· Respond to student inquiries and provide course support in person or virtually, as needed.· Communicate course expectations and assignments to students clearly.· Communicate frequently with the staff at the Institute for Civic & Community Engagement.· Complete required NYS- or SJF-mandated employee, as required.· Attend ad-hoc program development meetings, as needed.
Education / Experience:Minimum Qualifications: A Master’s degree from an accredited college or university. Teaching experience preferred. Nonprofit experience required.
Competencies / Skills:· Knowledge of and professional experience with community engagement and cross-sectoral collaborations.· Experience with program management and continuous improvement efforts.· Comfort with public speaking and/or teaching; demonstrated experience with presenting and the development of PowerPoints for the purpose of education.· Strong interpersonal, facilitation, and written and verbal communication skills.· Demonstrated emotional intelligence and intercultural competence and the ability to work effectively in collaboration with those from different cultures.· Strong organizational and project management skills.
Supervision of Employees:None.
Work Environment:Daytime classroom teaching environment. No special physical restrictions or equipment needed.
Equipment to be Used:Classroom teaching technology including PC Windows-based computer, audio-visual console, video projection unit, Zoom accessories.
Work Hours:The instructor is expected to be in the classroom for seven class meetings and a total of 12-14 hours. Instructors are typically in the classroom from approximately 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. There are no required on-campus office hours. Instructors must support students in person or virtually as needed. Preparation of instructional materials such as textbook selection, syllabus creation, and class presentations/activities are also to be completed by the instructor outside of classroom time.
