Job Description:
Title: Adjunct Instructor - Dental Assisting Lab & Clinical
Unit: DCE Adjunct Faculty
Department: Dental Assisting, Health Division
Reports to: Coordinator, Dental Assisting Program

General Summary:
Middlesex Community College invites applicants for part-time, adjunct faculty positions to teach labs and Clinicals in Dental Assisting. The need is for faculty members dedicated to excellence and able to work inclusively with students of diverse identities and backgrounds. Our part-time faculty are knowledgeable and creative individuals who have expertise in their discipline and have demonstrated commitment to meeting the diverse learning needs of our students.
The Part-Time Dental Assisting Faculty works with the program coordinator and will be responsible for delivering course content in accordance with program/college policies and procedures, as well as accreditation standards. The courses include both laboratory time and supervision in clinical externships. The Dental Assisting Program at Middlesex Community College is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) and follows all accreditation procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide laboratory instruction in courses with a skill component. This includes didactic presentations, demonstrations, skill remediation, and evaluation of skill competence. Lab instruction may also include the preparation of equipment and materials for labs as well as securing/putting away equipment after the conclusion of the lab.
- Maintain currency in Dental Assisting, clinical teaching and educational methodology, and Dental Assisting education through participation in continuing education and professional development. Promote employability skills and impress upon each student the importance of exhibiting appropriate conduct in the work setting.
- Maintain academic standards consistent with a professional certificate program.
- Evaluate and document students' progress often and share those evaluations with them promptly.
- Be available to meet with students for course or laboratory support.
- Meet course objectives, requirements, and student learning outcomes.
- Maintain and submit accurate records of student data by the deadlines determined.
- Assist the program coordinator in the purchase and maintenance of equipment in the Dental Assisting Lab and Clinic.
- Meet at least once each semester with the program coordinator
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree or expected graduation date prior to January 1, 2025.
- Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) and license to practice Dental Assisting in Massachusetts in good standing by date of hire.
- Minimum of two years of full-time experience in Dental Assisting, or its equivalent, within the last five years.
- Experience with equity-minded work and/or understanding of individuals of diverse identities such as race, ethnicity, socioeconomic level, sexual orientation, veterans, and individuals with different academic preparation levels and varying physical and learning abilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience teaching in a CODA-accredited Dental Assisting program
- Bilingual skills preferred.
Additional Information:
Salary Range: DCE Adjunct Instructors are paid in accordance with the DCE pay schedule under Article XIV of the Collective Bargaining Agreement
Location: Lowell campus with occasional travel to Bedford as needed
Hours: Schedule to be determined upon hire
