Position Summary
We are currently seeking Adjunct Faculty with extensive industry experience in Transportation and Supply Chain to teach in the Executive masters program for the Transportation and Supply Chain Institute, facilitating the learning experience of adult learners in career-focused programs. The Adjunct Faculty role we are hiring for in the Transportation and Supply Chain Institute is to teach graduate students in core management courses specifically related to leadership design, development, and administration. We are actively hiring for all five of the following courses:

Excellence in Leadership (TRAN 4400)

This course provides an integrated exploration of current topics that are most important for effective leadership. Current best leadership practices will be reviewed, and common leadership challenges within organizations will be analyzed for successful resolution.
Individual Leadership Development Project
(TRAN 4870)

This course will guide students through the process of developing and executing individualized leadership development projects to enhance specific leadership skills and goals within their current management structure or an assigned organization. Through work over the six quarters of the program, the leadership projects will provide a unique opportunity for each student to hone critical aspects of her/his leadership, which, in turn, benefits the students, their organizations, and the larger transportation, logistics, and Supply Chain community.
Business Planning Thesis (TRAN 4880)

This course will guide students through the creation of a comprehensive business development and/or productivity improvement-oriented business plan, with a preferred focus on the transportation industry, to develop a new revenue growth or new service opportunity for their organization or an assigned organization. Through work over the six quarters of the program, this project provides each student with important business planning and development skills to create an implementable business plan, which may provide tangible benefits to their sponsoring organization as well.
Executive Management Practices in Organizations (TRAN 4410)

This course provides a comprehensive view of best practices for executive management in workplaces. Organizational situations will be assessed from a variety of viewpoints and policies analyzed for optimal execution of strategy.
Leading with Integrity (TRAN 4420)

This course explores ethical decision making and values-based leadership. Values, ethics, and organizational philosophies will be assessed for best application in various corporate settings.

Essential Functions
Adjunct faculty at University College are subject matter experts in their field and integrate professionally relevant, diverse examples into their teaching and discussions. They adhere to University College Faculty Teaching Expectations and meet the following expectations:
Prepare Course Container for the Quarter

  • Prepare and post course syllabus using the University College syllabus template by deadlines.
  • Update policies, ensure content is error-free, and become familiar with ed-tech tools embedded into the course.

Provide Subject Matter Expertise

  • Make clear to students how content is professionally applicable.
  • Foster and model critical thinking through videos that demonstrate or explain, discussions, and/or live synchronous sessions.

Maintain Regular and Consistent Instructor Presence in Your Course

  • Integrate instructor-generated weekly videos.
  • Employ University College-supported ed-tech tools.
  • Consistently and equitably support and communicate with each student.
  • Employ highly engaged discussion facilitation.
  • In online classes, engage in discussion boards with substantive comments no fewer than three days per week.

Provide Specific, Relevant, and Timely Feedback

  • Provide feedback on student work within seven days of submission.
  • Use grading rubrics for all assignments.
  • Provide specific grading comments that foster growth, improvement, and learning.

Foster an Engaged and Inclusive Learning Environment

  • Foster an environment in which students feel comfortable sharing their ideas, thoughts, and questions.
  • Facilitate active discussions that embrace a diversity of perspectives.
  • Ensure that you and your students engage in professional and appropriate communication.
  • Utilize and engage diverse perspectives in teaching materials and practices.

Model and Uphold Academic Standards

  • Report concerns regarding the DU Honor Code.
  • Use plagiarism-detection tool embedded in Canvas.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Extensive knowledge of organizational design and organizational management
  • Ability to select the most relevant instructional multimedia and/or tech tools, and write effective copy, texts, audio, and video scripts.
  • Knowledge of and experience with higher education in general and adult learners in particular.
  • Proven excellent project management skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in groups.
  • Strong professional demeanor.
  • Ability to adapt priorities and focus.
  • Commitment to showcasing a diverse range of perspectives, experts, authors, and resources.

Required Qualifications

  • Education:
  • Ph.D. in the teaching topic you are applying to teach or a master's degree and no fewer than 10 years of industry/topic experience.
  • Successful teaching/facilitation experience with adults.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Work or academic experience congruent with the content of a course or courses offered within the Transportation and Supply Chain industries.
  • Reside in the U.S. and are legally allowed to work in the U.S.
  • Substantial industry experience in the Transportation and Supply Chain field.
  • Recognition of professional accomplishment in an area of expertise related to courses within the Transportation and Supply Chain Institute or leadership development.
  • Publication or professional presentations in Transportation and Supply Chain and/or leadership development field.
  • Licensing and/or certification by professional organizations.
  • Completion of an education or training program on adult learning or internship/mentorship that addresses adult learning principles and practices.
  • Able to teach on-campus at the University of Denver.

    Course Rate
    Following are the rates for a typical course:
    1-Credit Courses= $1500
    2-Credit Courses = $3000
    4-Credit Courses = $6000

The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, available market information, and course enrollment but not based on a candidates sex or any other protected status.
