Examples of Duties
1. Curriculum Development: Develop and update curriculum materials for EMT-Basic courses, ensuring alignment with industry standards and best practices.
2. Classroom Instruction: Conduct engaging and informative classroom sessions, covering topics such as anatomy, physiology, medical emergencies, trauma care, and other relevant subjects.
3. Practical Training: Organize and oversee hands-on practical training sessions, including simulations and skill drills, to reinforce theoretical knowledge.
4. Assessment and Evaluation: Create and administer assessments to evaluate students' understanding and competency in EMT-Basic skills, providing constructive feedback.
5. Mentorship: Provide guidance and mentorship to students, fostering a supportive learning environment and encouraging professional development.
6. Stay Informed: Stay abreast of advancements in emergency medical services and update course materials accordingly to reflect the latest industry standards.
7. Collaboration: Collaborate with other instructors and healthcare professionals to enhance the overall quality of the educational program.
Minimum Qualifications
1. EMT-Basic Certification: Must hold a valid EMT-Basic certification in the state of West Virginia.
2. Instructor Certification: Possess certification as an EMT-Basic Instructor or the ability to obtain it within a specified timeframe. National Association of EMS Educators (NAEMSE) I & NAEMSE II Instructor certifications or West Virginia Public Service Training (WVPST) Instructor I & WVPST Instructor II certifications are accepted.
3. Teaching Experience: Demonstrate a minimum of 2 years of experience teaching EMT-Basic courses or related healthcare education programs.
4. Clinical Experience: Have a solid background in clinical practice as an EMT-Basic, with a thorough understanding of pre-hospital emergency care.
5. Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex medical concepts to diverse audiences.
6. Adaptability: Ability to adapt teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles and effectively engage students.
