Description
Under the direction of the Adaptive Recreation Coordinator, the successful candidate will assist in implementing inclusive and Adaptive Recreation Programs for Dublin community members with special needs. We are currently seeking an Adaptive Recreation Program Assistant who will be comfortable working with individuals of all ages with varying abilities and needs, who is able to help facilitate a fun and safe environment, and who will be available to work days or evenings as a condition of employment.
Availability/Scheduling
  • Candidates must be available to work in person in Dublin, Ohio.
  • Program Assistant hours are typically 2-4 hour shifts, and may include 1-3 evening or day shifts per week. Weekend hours are a possibility.
  • A typical work schedule may include 3-10 hours per week, depending on program needs.

Examples of Duties
Examples of duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Assist with setup and cleanup of program activities under the direction of the Instructor or Adaptive Recreation Coordinator
  • Assist Adaptive Recreation Coordinator or Instructor in facilitating activities throughout the program
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm for, and engage in, program activities and games
  • Assist participants with various needs with program activities
  • Interact and engage with program participants with special needs and their families in a respectful way
  • Ensure participant safety by providing effective supervision, enforcing safety policies and procedures, and maintaining clean areas throughout program durations
  • Communicate effectively with the Adaptive Recreation Coordinator and/or Instructor and program participants prior to, during, and at the conclusion of each program

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Demonstrate knowledge and experience of working with individuals with a wide range of disabilities
  • Ability to work in a team environment
Preferred Qualifications
  • College or work experience in Education, Special Education, Adaptive Recreation, or related field
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds
  • Remain active and on your feet for length of program time
Other Requirements
  • Regular attendance, as governed by and in accordance with applicable rules, regulations, procedures and laws is regarded as an essential requirement of this classification
  • Compliance with training directives established by supervisory/managerial personnel
  • Adherence to all applicable Federal and State safety laws, rules, and regulations and City safety policies/procedures
