Description:
Arlington Heights School District 25 has an opening for a full-time (1.0 FTE) Adaptive Physical Education Teacher for the 2023-24 school year.
Responsibilities
- Complete screenings and evaluations to determine eligibility for special education adapted Physical Education support.
- Create and update Individual Educational Programs (IEP) based on the evaluation results and student progress.
- Design and implement adapted Physical Education activities in physical fitness, gross motor skills, and perceptual motor skills based on Physical Education (PE) curriculum and IEP goals.
- Utilize a variety of techniques and materials to execute appropriate curriculum.
- Monitor and maintain accurate written records of student performance, progress monitoring of goals, and provision of services adjusting instruction and the IEP as necessary.
- Collaborate and participate in the student's multi-disciplinary team, providing consultation to team members regarding the student's physical and leisure skills.
- Collaborate with Physical Education Department team members to develop Physical Education curriculum appropriate to exceptional needs of students.
- Participate in parent meetings and conferences as necessary.
- Create schedules and provide supervision of teaching assistants.
- Provide appropriate role model supporting student behavior and providing education.
- Assume responsibility for continued professional growth.
- Assume other duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Must possess a valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with an Adaptive PE Endorsement
- Preferred candidates will speak a second language
- Preferred candidates will be willing to work with students outside of the normal school day by participating in activities, athletics, or other school related endeavors
- Coursework in adaptive PE preferred
- Experience working with students in group situations and/or classroom environment preferred.
- Ability to visually and auditorily monitor student performance and behavior
- Ability to model good language and vocabulary.
