Job Description
These are direct placement (FTE) positions, can be 100% remote, salary $90-120k based on Healthcare Actuarial experience and Actuarial Designation plus competitive bonus, benefits package, PTO, 401k.
Key technologies:
SQL, SAS, SQL Server Integration Services in Visual Studio, Excel, Computer programming fundamentals, including an understanding of libraries and packages and experience with Visual Basic, C#, C++, and/or R.
Nice to haves: Advanced Excel including VBA, Power Query, arrays, array formulas, Power Pivot, experience with Power BI (Business Intelligence), SQL
Preferred Certifications
Associate, Society of Actuaries (ASA) and Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA)
Required Experience
· 3+ years of recent experience in an actuarial field
· 2+ years of experience working for a healthcare organization / health insurer
· Intermediate to advanced proficiency in SQL, Excel and data warehouse querying tools
· Advanced skill with SAS, mathematics and statistics
Required Professional Competencies
· Intermediate knowledge in common healthcare actuarial principles, including:
- Forecasting principles, Financial reporting
- Familiarity with Affordable Care Act and ensuing regulations
· Broad understanding of health insurance terms and concepts; knowledge of benefit design and pricing/rating
· Analytical knowledge necessary to generate reports, actuarial analyses, and mathematical models based on available data and ability to make sound decisions based on reported data
· Ability to solve problems independently and draw accurate conclusions from limited data using basic mathematical modeling and actuarial techniques.
· Ability to deal with ambiguity and make recommendations with less than complete or conflicting information while maintaining appropriate time management.
· Ability to maintain confidentiality and privacy
· Ability to summarize technical information to a non-technical audience.
· Project management skill needed to create timelines, track deliverables and progress, resolve issues, and communicate project status
Preferred Competencies
· Advanced actuarial principles such as Monte Carlo simulation and Time Series analysis
· QHP filing experience, commercial pricing experience
· Medicare/Medicaid experience
Job Responsibilities
· Provide advanced technical analysis and guidance on behalf of the Actuarial Department.
· Plan and lead complex projects from inception to completion, creating timelines, working with other areas to define deliverables, monitoring progress, implementing the project and resolving/monitoring post-implementation issues.
· Communicate (both verbally and in writing) and interpret results, recommendations and abstract concepts to internal and external customers.
· Incorporate strategic planning in all areas of responsibility.
Required Education
· Bachelor's Degree in business, mathematics, statistics, or related field of study
· Master’s Degree in business, mathematics, statistics, or related field of study (preferred)
