Activity Aide

Purpose

Assist in the implementation, and execution of recreational, social, intellectual, emotional and spiritual programs, in accordance with the resident’s assessment and care plan, and as may be determined by the Director of Activities.

Hours are 8:00am-4:30pm Monday-Friday must work 1 weekend a month and assigned Holidays

Essential Job Functions - Duties

• Assist the Director of Activities in implementing and conducting individual and group activity programs.
• Provide encouragement and motivation to residents for participation in the activities program and conduct activities in a manner that achieves resident interest and maximum involvement.
• Assist Director of Activities in the distribution of a monthly calendar to all residents, through the posting of calendars in centralized common areas of the facility, and through such other special means of communicating events as may be appropriate.
• Assemble craft supplies, materials, library services, tapes, records, and adaptive reading materials for conducting the activity program, utilize designated activity and lounge areas, resident rooms, dining rooms, outside areas, and common areas located elsewhere in the building, as determined by the Director of Activities.
• Communicate the activities program to staff members to ensure integration in the overall resident care program on a short-term and long-range basis.
• Ensure the safe transport of residents to activity areas inside and the outside the facility.
• Assist the Director of Activities with the care and appearance of the therapy pets.
• Assist with daily and quarterly documentation of resident's participation in programs and notes as directed by the Director of Activities.
• Participate as a member of committees or groups as determined by the Director of Activities for the purpose of identifying and evaluating the spiritual, social, recreational, and emotional needs of residents; attend other outside sessions as directed by the Director of Activities.
• Assist the Director of Activities to ensure that necessary forms and reports are properly completed and that entries and reports contain informative descriptions of services provided and resident responses.
• Communicate with the Director of Activities to ensure the selection of appropriate activities to meet individual resident needs; develop and maintain rapport with all residents, services, vendors, volunteers, and families for an effective activities program.
• Observe and promptly report to the Director of Activities changes in resident behavior or condition, especially symptoms or appearance of depression, anxiety, withdrawal, or aggression.
• Communicate with the Director of Activities regarding supplies and as needed assist in obtaining them.
• Recommend to the Director of Activities the equipment and supply needs for the activities program. Assemble and maintain appropriate levels of activity equipment and supplies.
• Give receipts and invoices of activity expenditures to the Director of Activities.
• Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the facility.
• Develop and maintain a good working rapport with other departments within the facility to assure that daily activities can be performed without interruption.
• Develop and maintain required competence through participation in continuing education programs, seminars, and professional activities and programs as approved by the Director of Activities.
• Maintain the activity storage areas.
• Present positive endorsement of Elm Terrace Gardens, its mission, programs, policies, procedures, and administration to Elm Terrace Gardens residents, staff, visitors, and other constituencies at all times.
• Report for work as scheduled.
• Assist with resident transport to and from activities.

Qualifications

• Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age and completed high school or obtained the equivalent of a high school education; and
• Must be able to positively deal with the public; and
• Must possess or have the capacity to acquire knowledge of applicable regulations governing the development and implementation of an effective activities program; and
• Must possess the ability to speak to and be understood by residents and staff, and demonstrate the ability to read, write, and follow oral and written directions; and
• Must possess an agreeable and helpful attitude toward senior adults.
