Activity Coordinator/Director
$40,000 to $45,000 annual
Monday-Friday (weekend availability for events only, 4 to 5 times per year)
JOB SUMMARY
The Activity Director shall develop, organize, and coordinate available facility and community resources to provide the highest quality ongoing program of activities for this 32 unit Assisted Living Facility (no Dementia Care). The Director will design to meet, in accordance with the assessment, the interests and the physical, mental and psychosocial well-being of each resident.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Access all pertinent resident records for assessment of program purposes.
- Design and develop Activity programs that meet residents' physical, mental, social, spiritual and emotional needs and comply with state and regulatory agency guidelines and facility policies concerning the delivery of Activity Services.
- Drive the company 12 passenger bus and Mini-Van on weekly shopping trips, weekly doctor appointments and other special outings schedule
- Ensure the execution of activities by either the Activities Director, Activities Assistant, staff, or volunteers.
- Develop an ongoing relationship with each resident and families.
- Remain available for occasional weekend events as scheduled (3 to 4 times per year)
- Assist with day-to-day residents needs.
- Help residents coordinate personal rides with local transportation.
- Coordinate all department programs and services, including volunteer or auxiliary activities and religious services.
- Attend Resident Care Conferences. Follow up with any corrections needed in Activities.
- Give guided tours.
- Maintain effective communications and working relations with all staff/ departments, residents, families, and the public.

Bus maintenance
- Maintain compliance with all HIPAA and residents rights.
- Supervise assistant and volunteers; coordinate recruitment, orientation, training, supervision, elevation and recognition efforts.
- Coordinate Activity Programs with all other departments in the facility.
- Secure entertainment, program leaders, volunteers, materials, equipment and transportations well in advance of scheduled dates.
- Participate in the in-services training programs in the facility. This includes presenting sessions as well as attending. Attend and contribute to staff monthly staff meetings.
- Attend and participate in weekly management meetings.
- Attend workshops or educational programs that relate to Activities programming, maintaining a minimum number of in-service learning hours.
- Evaluate effectiveness of Activities programs in terms of resident outcome, (individual needs, desires, participation levels)
- Demonstrate emotional maturity (interpersonal relations with staff, residents, families, volunteers, safety and emergency decisions)
- Ensure all Residents are involved in activities, (group, one to one, bedside and/or independent) on a weekly basis.
- Maintain a safe Activity environment through preventive maintenance, cleaning and storage of supplies and equipment.
- Coordinate facility- sponsored community trips/outings.
- Schedule staffing hours to ensure appropriate program coverage.
- Pursue and maintain professional contacts related to Activity Program including medical professionals, community agencies, volunteers and clergy.
- Act as facilitator to the Resident Council Meeting.
Post meeting minutes in newsletter.
Promotion of Activity programs through newsletters and other appropriate media.
- Decorate buildings for seasonal holidays.
Maintain seasonal storage room
- Hospital visits, attend resident wakes.
- Complete all other duties assigned.
Qualifications
- Meets state and regulatory agency requirements
- Have physical stamina, mental abilities and emotional stability to handle high job stress; coordinate and conduct programs, provide services, and supervise others.
- Possesses good verbal and written communication skills.
- Possesses good interpersonal skills including group dynamics and teamwork.
- Demonstrates genuine liking and respect of elderly.
- Conveys cheerfulness, positive attitude, patience and ability to motivate people.
- Possess a current MN Class D endorsement license and good driving record.
