Accounts Payable/Payroll Accountant

Electrical contractor in Northbrook IL is seeking an experienced accountant in the construction industry to manage and perform a variety of complex accounting tasks including payroll and accounts payable functions. This position works with the accounting team to support the day to day operations of the accounting department.

Responsibilities include providing day to day management and support for the following accounting operations:

• Payroll – administration of the weekly payroll process including the reconciliation of hours reported by man to job cost; data input and preparation of all weekly payroll reporting requirements. Day to day administration and management of all union and non-union related payroll issues.
• Accounts Payable – review and input of accounts payable invoices, including purchase order verification, research, reconciliation, expense analysis and payment processing. Responsibility for all related processes including sales and use tax reporting, administration of corporate credit cards, certificates of insurance etc.
• Job Costing - Maintain integrity of job cost system by ensuring the timely processing and appropriate coding all payroll and accounts payable related activities
• Manage and assist in additional related tasks as assigned to support the day to day work flow of the accounting department

Qualifications

· Minimum of 5 years accounting experience including payroll, accounts payable, general ledger and relevant construction industry experience

· Construction administration experience with sufficient understanding of industry practices, terminology and procedures

· Experience with union payroll/reporting issues and procedures required

· Experience with job cost accounting procedures and reporting

· Strong computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word

· Ability to multi-task in a high volume, fast paced work environment with very tight deadlines

· Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize

· Strong communication and interpersonal skills

· Extremely detail oriented and self starter
