Position Summary
The Accounting Manager oversees the accounting staff with a focus on timely and accurate delivery of financial statements and reporting. This position is responsible for driving team performance and getting the most out of individual contributors. This includes managing daily accounting activities with respect to general accounting procedures, internal control, and other fiscal related matters. The Accounting Manager is a thought partner invited to bring their best thinking and mentorship to processes and people for the advancement of financial operations.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field.
- Six to eight (6-8) years accounting/finance manager experience.
- Four to six (4-6) years of experience within a corporate environment or government agency.
- Advanced knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and fund accounting
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities across all levels of an organization
- Strong ability to lead a high performing team, set milestones and meet deliverables.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel knowledge, skills.
- Analytical thinking skills.
- Knowledge of MIP, ADP, PowerPlan and Salesforce.
- Mange the work of departmental staff including coordinating, assigning, monitoring, and evaluating work; hiring, training, counseling, and rewarding staff.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, other corporate employees/ departments, stakeholders, contractors/vendors and the public.
- Effective planning and time management skills.
Fundamental Requirements
- Master’s degree in accounting, finance or related field.
- CPA (Certified Public Accountant).
- Tech savvy.
- Combination of profit and not-for-profit background gained in a complex environment with a complete understanding of fund accounting.
- Ability to identify and implement process improvements.
Essential Functions
- Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting close and financial reporting.
- Manage the accounting system’s maintenance, operations and required enhancements.
- Responsible for setting up and maintaining all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems to ensure compliance with GAAP and OMB regulatory requirements as they relate to Federal Cost Principles and Uniform Guidance.
- Develop, implement and monitor policies and operating procedures to maintain an effective system of internal controls over accounting transactions and segregation of duties.
- Ensure accuracy of all financial activities and safeguarding of assets.
- Maintain the chart of accounts, cost pools system and fixed assets system.
- Coordinate the provision of information to external auditors for the annual audit and fiscal monitoring of grants and contracts.
- Comply with all local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
- Ensure accounting transactions are supported by adequate documentation.
- Maintain an orderly filing system for accounting transactions, contracts and grants.
- Prepare financial statement, cash flow/liquidity, variance analysis, aging reports and other ad-hoc reports upon request.
- Administer established policies and procedures, departmental budgeting, strategic planning, and procedural change.
- Manage and maintain adequate staffing level by recruiting, selecting, training and retaining talent.
- Ensure team members stay abreast of new trends, developments, laws, and regulations.

In the spirit of pay transparency, we are excited to share the base salary range for this position. If you are hired at San Diego Workforce Partnership, your final base salary (within the pay range), will be determined based on factors such as education, knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition to those factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider the internal equity of our current team members when determining any final offer. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is the full base salary range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future and continued salary growth. We also offer generous benefits and retirement plans.
