BayLand Consultants & Designers, Inc. (BayLand), an engineering firm, seeks an experienced Accounting/Human Resources Specialist to join our collaborative and driven team. Currently with 45+ employees (4 acct/admin), headquartered in Hanover, Maryland, we are looking for an energetic and self-motivated individual who can help us on our on-going growth path. You will be part of BayLand’s expanding operations and a growing team.
The Company & You
BayLand is a dynamic team of professional engineers and scientists producing stream and ecological restoration designs for watersheds and waterways throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. Our work is important to us, our clients, the community, and the environment. Clear and accurate project fiscal reports and billings are key to our success.
The Accounting/Human Resources Specialist will immediately provide support to the accounting and administrative team, as well as, improve employee relations.
Responsibilities
Accounting – Assist Chief of Finance
Assist with payroll, including filing and payment of all quarterly reports, year end forms, and returns.
Assist with preparation and distribution of biweekly payroll, including timesheet and expense tracking, benefits insurance, 401k, employee leave, tax changes and updates, and preparation of labor and project reports.
Assist with Accounts Payable, including maintaining vendor information, general ledger coding, reviewing aged payables, overhead expenses, asset purchases and related expenses.
Assist to manage corporate insurance policies and ensure compliance with all contracts.
Assist with fiscal management, budget projections, labor output scenarios, and tracking project budgets and expenditures.
Human Resources
Administering company’s benefit programs, including health, life, and disability insurance and health savings accounts.
Serving as the primary point of contact for employee questions regarding benefits, leave administration, onboarding, and other issues related to our insurance and benefit programs.
Partner with our benefits broker to navigate annual open enrollment and education to the staff.
Serve as a resource to team leaders to drive professional development and advancement.
Work collaboratively with Finance and Administration to fulfill the company’s HR needs.
Create and implement HR policies and procedures.
Monitor workplace to ensure full compliance with all applicable employment laws and regulations and ensuring adherence to requirements.
Manage leave of absences and workers compensation.
Serve as a workforce champion and promote a positive work environment and employee experience.
Qualifications

Assist in other special projects and accounting developments.
Desired Skills / Qualifications
B.S. in Accounting, Human Resources, Finance, Business Administration or related field.
2-3 years of experience in accounting or Human Resources, preferably in Architectural/Engineering or Construction industries.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize and complete competing demands.
Experience with automated accounting systems, particularly Deltek/Ajera.
Unwavering attention to detail and accuracy.
Self-starter, with motivation to learn and desire to advance.
Strong analytical, organizational and time management skills.
High level of integrity and ability to handle confidential information.
Strong work ethic, communications and interpersonal skills.
Must have a valid driver’s licenses and an insurable driving record. Background check may be required.
