An Accountant II performs professional accounting work on selected phases of a fiscal program, or for a small department in accordance with standard accounting practices and general instructions; and performs other related duties as required.
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Participating in the collection, compilation, classification and evaluation of fiscal data;
- Taking trial balances, making adjusting and closing entries;
- Verifying and analyzing financial data and preparing financial statements and reports;
- Summarizing and recapping monthly time and cost reports;
- Participating in making studies and estimates of department's revenues and operating costs and assists in working out allocation of funds to various programs or activities;
- Gathering data and performing studies on various problems arising in connection with financial administration;
- Classifying, coding, and distributing to proper accounts and funds, accounting documents covering encumbrances, expenditures and revenues;
- Maintaining expenditure, object, cost and control ledgers, registers, journals and other records required in fiscal operations; overseeing the work of clerical and technical recordkeeping personnel;
- Perform financial evaluation in determining the availability of funds; and
- Interpret, explain and apply applicable rules, regulations, and procedures.
Current Vacancy Information:
There is one (1) vacancy with the Department of Budget and Fiscal Services, Accounting Division, located in Honolulu at the Fasi Municipal Building. The position is responsible for applying professional accounting principles and practices in the maintenance of an accounting system at an advanced trainee level. Professional level accounting duties including but not limited to the preparation of worksheets, financial reports, exhibits and statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting standards; compiling and analyzing financial data; maintaining ledgers and other fiscal records.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Equivalent to graduation from a regionally-accredited college or university with a major in Accounting or a related field with at least 12 semester credits in accounting or auditing courses. Six of the 12 credits must be above the beginning or elementary course level and from a regionally- accredited four-year college or university.
Education obtained outside of the United States must be comparable to a degree earned at a regionally-accredited college/university in the United States. In order to receive credit for the education, a foreign credential evaluation (FCE) must be provided. We also reserve the right to request further information about your academic program, evidence of comparability, or an original transcript.
One (1) year of experience in professional (post-Bachelor's/non-clerical) accounting.
Such experience must have demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practices of accounting and governmental financial reporting standards and the preparation and analysis of financial statements and reports. Such experience must have also demonstrated the ability to prepare complete and accurate financial reports and standards and analyze data, detect errors and correct inconsistencies in accounting records.
