In this role you will perform a variety of professional accounting duties according to established accounting principles. To be successful in the role you will have a solid working knowledge of financial accounting principles and financial statements.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Complete general ledger and bank account reconciliations and ensure the accurate and timely resolution of reconciling items. Prepare adjusting journal entries.
- Establish and maintain chart of accounts and assign entries to proper accounts.
- Research and resolve discrepancies and accounting errors.
- Assist with performing daily accounts payable activities, including processing/reviewing invoices, issuing checks, posting ACH payments, and researching issues with vendors.
- Reconcile and maintain records for Prepaids and Fixed Assets, including conducting periodic inventories.
- Report to management regarding the finances of establishment.
- Assist departments by answering questions and researching concerns.
- Develop, implement, modify, and document recordkeeping and accounting systems, making use of current computer technology.
- Coordinate accounting matters with other departments.
- Analyze current processes within area of responsibility for effectiveness and efficiency and streamline those processes when possible.
- May mentor or oversee work of junior-level team members.
- Comply with the credit union Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) Policy and Anti Money Laundering and Member Due Diligence Procedures. The BSA training is to be completed within 90 days of employment and annually thereafter.
- Complete compliance and career development training as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required:
- Skills: Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Excel, Data Analysis.
- Experience: 3+ years of Accountant experience.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
Preferred:
- Experience: Financial Institution/Credit Union experience with an emphasis on Fiserv DNA and/or Prologue.
- Education: Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
