Job description

SUMMARY:

The Accountant II applies GAAP to data analysis, entry preparation and account reconciliation for accurate processing of activities such as general ledger, accounts and pledges receivable, inventory and fixed assets. The Accountant II performs monthly close including tracking and release of grants for one or more affiliated organizations. The Accountant II maintains ledgers and spreadsheets in Excel for related general ledger accounts. The Accountant II documents and creates accounting-related procedures and reports as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential duties and responsibilities include, and are not strictly limited to, the following:

· Performs monthly close for one or more companies.

· Creates journal entries for accruals, amortization, inventory tracking, restricted fund releases, fixed assets, etc.

· Maintains schedules for monthly close and grant releases and reconciles to general ledger.

· Prepares entries for intercompany eliminations and allocations.

· Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare entries to the general ledger and to document financial transactions. This would include but is not limited to: cash receipts, contributed and earned revenue, prepaid and accrued expenses, inventory adjustments, deferred revenue recognition, and fixed asset maintenance and entries.

· Reviews and oversees coding of accounts payable invoices.

· Monitors and resolves past due accounts receivable.

· Prepares and reviews monthly internal accounting reports.

· Coordinates physical inventory counts and conducts internal audits of petty cash.

· Prepares grant budget spending reports.

· Provides support and instruction to non-finance staff regarding financial reporting and analysis.

· Prepares sales tax returns.

· Prepares various schedules for annual audits and tax returns.

· Works with development staff to reconcile data from donor management system to general ledger and resolve discrepancies.

· Prepares invoices related to catering and events and other invoices as needed.

· Assists with annual budget preparation process.

· Assists with special projects as directed by Senior Director of Finance.

· Exhibits understanding and internalization of company values: influence, respect, listen, shape, and embrace.

· Performs other related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

There are no supervisory responsibilities associated with this position.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree (B.S. or B.A.) in accounting. Minimum of 3-5 years accounting experience; experience in non-profit accounting strongly preferred. Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office, with advanced knowledge of Excel. Experience with MIP or other fund accounting software preferred.
