Summary
This opportunity is for a candidate to be part of our general accounting team. This individual will be responsible for a variety of activities such as fixed asset accounting, preparation of account reconciliation on a monthly basis, preparation of month-end close journal entries in our ERP system, documentation of standard operating procedures (SOPs), preparation of schedules for submission to auditors, and assume responsibility for specific subsidiary legal entities statutory audits. The ideal candidate should possess a strong understanding of accrual accounting and is knowledgeable of various accounting standards such as fixed assets accounting principles, depreciation expense calculation, prepaid asset accounting, revenue recognition, partnership accounting and consolidation accounting. The candidate will be integral to the purchase order (POs) conversion process and year-end reconciliation of purchase orders as well as other income statement related accounts.
Reporting to an accounting manager, this position will be responsible for working recording journal entries, prepare account reconciliations of various accounts and will perform spot audits to assess controls effectiveness in certain significant processes. This candidate must be team oriented whilst possessing the ability to work independently. The selected individual must possess the ability to multi-task and have a high degree of initiative, ownership, accuracy, and attention to detail in a fast-paced environment. Critical skills the candidate must possess include being organized, proactive, collaborative, critical thinker, adaptable, possess a sense of urgency, and detailed nature.
This is a hybrid position that will require approximately 2-3 days per week onsite at our Houston, TX (River Oaks area) office.
General Accountant Responsibilities
- Responsible for certain significant accounting accounts to record journal entries correctly
- Timely closing of the books on a monthly basis in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Perform accounting activities and ensure compliance with accounting rules and the Company's accounting policies
- Work closely with the accounting managers to ensure accounts are reconciled monthly and/or quarterly depending on account risk profiles established
- Assist with maintaining a robust system of internal controls to drive financial data transparency and process efficiency
- Assist others in the preparation of monthly internal management reporting package and other analyses as needed
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting required
- CPA designation preferred but not required
- Minimum of 3-5 years related experience in the Accounting profession and performing fixed asset related accounting responsibilities.
- Strong MS Office application (Excel and Word) required
- Working knowledge of Sage Intacct ERP is a plus
- Google Workspace experience preferred
- Strong analytical skills
- Strong and effective written and oral communication skills required
- Attention to detail and high degree of accuracy required
- Adaptability/flexibility and teamwork skills are necessary
