L.A. ELECTRICAL WORKERS CREDIT UNION

Title: Accountant

Reports To: Executive Vice President

Position: Regular Fulltime, Hourly Non-Exempt - Individual Contributor/ Non-Manager

The L.A. Electrical Workers Credit Union is seeking an Accountant to join our team. This individual will perform all tasks necessary to balance and update general ledger and subsidiary accounts, maintain, and reconcile daily cash accounts, and manage other accounting‐related duties all while maintaining current GAAP principles.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Code invoices and vouchers with proper account distribution. Prepare, pay, scan all accounts payable for the credit union. Research and resolve discrepancies.
  • Prepare and enter daily and monthly general ledger transactions including investment activity, employee payroll, pension entries, accrued income, and expenses.
  • Analyze and reconcile all general ledger accounts of the credit union.
  • Prepare summary journal vouchers and verify that all other journal vouchers and cash received have been properly balanced and authorized.
  • Review and analyze financial data. Generate a variety of reports and statements as requested by management. Prepare financial statements and reports on a regular basis. Examples of reports include daily cash flow, investment schedules, accrued income and expenses.
  • Post and reconcile the subsidiary records for the accrued income from investment accounts.
  • Maintain records of investments, including schedules, post investment interest checks, and reconcile premium and discount general ledger accounts.
  • Review daily cash balances.
  • Upload daily positive pay file to bank, clear, and reconcile outstanding checks GL.
  • Prepare the credit union’s tax returns.
  • Research and adjust all open items, cash imbalances, and variances.
  • Set‐up and run all prepaid and fixed asset items in the depreciation program.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports for and verification of the quarterly 5300 report.
  • Send, receive, enter journal vouchers for wires.
  • Maintain records of fixed assets.
  • Record month end accruals (and/or prepaid schedules)
  • Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential.
  • Assists as needed during regulatory examinations and Certified Public Accountant (CPA) audits.
  • Ensures all work is presented in an accurate, detailed, consistent and professional manner.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of Bank Secrecy Act (BSA)/Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Office of Foreign Asset Controls (OFAC) applicable to area of responsibility and complies with all laws/regulations.
  • Participates and completes designated monthly training sessions set forth by department and/or organization.
  • Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality
  • Daily cash management of Corporate CU account and other financial institutions
  • Maintains historical records by scanning (imaging) documents.
  • Assist Executive Management with the preparation of the annual budget.
  • Other duties as assigned or directed by Executive Management.

EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of high school education.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in an accounting role at a credit union.
  • Understanding of financial terms, good comprehension of mathematics and English language.
  • Must possess a thorough understanding of and the ability to explain:
  • The difference between assets and liabilities, debits, and credits
  • Purpose of general ledger accounts, how to balance and reconcile GLs
  • The ability to analyze performance reports, identify fluctuations and the related causes
  • Familiarity with GAAP, able to describe the impact of how GAAP influences decisions
  • Excellent written and spoken English required.
  • Requires the ability to communicate courteously and professionally, both in writing and verbally.
  • Attention to detail, able to comply with strict deadlines. Proven flexibility, with the ability to multi-task.
  • Computer proficiency is required: Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel. Experience with CUNW core processor is a plus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $26.00 - $29.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
