Job Description
The Accountant is responsible for a wide variety of finance-related tasks that are primarily associated with preparing financial records. These tasks include AP / AR, treasury management, job costing, computing sales taxes, organizing and maintaining financial records, and ensuring statements are accurate. The Accountant must perform all of this work while abiding by Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
This position supports all BioStar entities and requires knowledge of different rules and guidelines across multiple states.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage accounts payable and receivable, including invoicing, collection, vendor payments, reporting and credit applications for all entities
- Job Costing, including issuance of purchase orders, over/under billing, and percentage of completion reporting
- Reconcile accounts payable and receivable
- Reconcile inter-company accounts
- Treasury management: monitor bank accounts, send ach and wire payments, transfer funds as needed
- Prepare monthly sales tax returns; requires knowledge of sales tax rules and applications in various states
- Monitor entity registration in multiple states including registering, withdrawing, enrolling registered agent and filing annual reports.
- Prepare monthly draws and support for banks.
- Maintain WIP (work in progress) for current projects.
- Assist VP Accounting with cash forecast, financial reporting, budgeting, and projects as needed
- Assist in preparation of budget forecasts
- Ensure timely bank payments
- Assist with Audit financial transactions and documents
- Comply with financial policies and regulations
- Follow applicable standards, rules, regulations, and systems of internal control
- Aid in the implementation of new accounting systems
- Assist in providing accurate, timely, and relevant recording, reporting, and analysis of financial information
- Handle sensitive information in a confidential manner
Education and/or Skills and Work Experience Requirements:
- BS in Accounting, Finance or relevant degree
- Additional certification (CPA or CMA) is a plus
- Construction/Development experience is a plus
- 2-5+ years’ work experience as an Accountant
- More than 3 years of A/R and A/P experience, preferably in a multi-company environment.
- Excellent knowledge of accounting regulations and procedures, including the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Hands-on experience with accounting software, such as Sage
- Experience with general ledger functions
- Knowledge of sales tax rules and applications in various states
