Description
Looking to step into the world of municipal finance? The City of St. Charles has an opportunity for you! Currently seeking a detail-oriented Accountant to join our Finance Department. We provide a supportive work environment that encourages learning and professional growth. Responsible for a variety of accounting tasks, including auditing, budgeting, control functions, payroll support and other general accounting functions which aid and support the department. Work closely with the Finance Director and Assistant Finance Director on special projects and ensure the smooth functioning of financial systems.
Examples of Duties

• Monitoring the Computerized Fleet Analysis (CFA) system
• Maintaining Treasury Management and fixed asset accounting systems
• Prepare Journal Entries and assist with month-end closes and balance sheet reconciliations
• Process monthly Pension Payrolls and calculates police and fire pensioner benefits
• Prepare quarterly and annual payroll filings
• In the absence of the Payroll Coordinator this position processes City payroll

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field
• Three years accounting and/or auditing experience involving the regular use of generally accepted accounting principles and practices
• Experience with accounting for government and the laws and regulations governing municipal accounting are strongly preferred
• Knowledge of payroll computations and concepts
• Excellent oral and written communication skills to provide superior customer service
• Detail-oriented with developed analytical skills
• Proficiency with software programs such as Word, Excel, Outlook and enterprise financial and accounting systems

If selected, successful completion of a background investigation and drug screen are required.
