Academic Manager (Cosmetology School) - Brooklyn, NY

 

Under the direction of the School Director, the Academic Manager is responsible for the overall education administration and management of the Brooklyn campus. The Academic Manager is responsible for creating and sustaining academic and professional excellence standards for the students and faculty.

The salary for this position is $50,000 to 55,000 per year.

 
Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities include:
  • Provides the overall campus-level educational leadership and supervision to meet/exceed expectations set forth by the Executive Director, Director of Education, and Home Office.  Maintains regular and timely attendance at work to meet objectives.
  • Assist the Executive Director and/or Director of Education in hiring, managing, training, motivating, and evaluating faculty and other school-level educational staff in accomplishing school objectives within company guidelines.
  • Assist the Executive Director and/or Director of Education in maintaining compliance in the areas of instruction, curriculum, student satisfactory progress, and attendance.
  • Assist the Executive Director and/or Director of Education in maintaining educator and student records.  Manages staff and student concerns and issues.
  • Assist the Executive Director and/or Director of Education in the administration of student schedules to maximize student/teacher ratio and classroom utilization.
  • Attends and participates in all new student orientations.
  • Assist the Executive Director and/or Director of Education in managing reenters, retention, attendance, clinic sales, licensure, and placement.
  • Assist the Executive Director and/or Director of Education in analyzing campus-level results on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis making appropriate changes to prevent or overcome issues.
  • Assist the Executive Director and/or Director of Education in administering and reviewing all faculty and student surveys, and developing and implementing action plans to correct student, faculty, or educational concerns.
  • Responsible for securing guest speakers and other educational workshops to enhance the student's learning experience.
  • Coordinates advisory boards.
  • Enforces all school policies and procedures to ensure educational consistency.
  • Assist the Executive Director and/or Director of Education in faculty development.
  • Creates an environment that is conducive to learning and instruction.
  • Assist the Executive Director and/or Director of Education with the operational management of the school where appropriate.
  • Assist the Executive Director and/or Director of Education to ensure compliance with all corporate policies, and all regulatory agencies including but not limited to: the Department of Education, State Boards of Cosmetology, NACCAS, DOL, EEOC, etc.
  • Assist the Executive Director and/or Director of Education to ensure company policies are followed concerning hiring, terminations, performance reviews, submission of any proposed salary adjustments, and other related human resource/EEO matters.
  • Keep the Executive Director and/or Director of Education apprised of potential issues, including but not limited to regulatory agency concerns, planned terminations or offers of employment, harassment complaints, or potential legal issues.

Other Functions/Responsibilities:
  • Performs administrative tasks as assigned by the Executive Director and/or Director of Education. 
  • Monitors the physical needs of the assigned campuses and recommends physical changes and maintenance. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Additional Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and customer service skills. 
  • Ability to excel in a high-growth fast-paced environment.

Education:
  • Cosmetology Operator's License (2-4 years of Salon experience required) 
  • Cosmetology Teacher's License (2-4 years teaching experience required)
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred but not required. 

Experience:
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in Education and Faculty Management. 
  • School Operations experience is preferred but not required.
